The Virginia Living Museum seeks a Chief Operating Officer (COO) with an entrepreneurial, creative spirit to lead a team of specialized professionals. The COO motivates and leads staff and volunteers in creating exceptional guest experiences to support the Museum's engaging mission to connect people to nature through educational experiences that promote conservation.
Goals
- Support aggressive Museum growth goals as the leading education organization for Virginia biodiversity and natural sciences
- Collaborate with CEO in setting and driving organizational vision and operations strategy
- Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting and annual operations planning
- Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and organizational goals are met in a safe environment
- Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention
Objectives
- Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short and long term goals of the Museum
- Analyze internal operations and identify areas for process enhancement
- Oversee daily operations of Guest Engagement, Facilities/Maintenance/Construction, Exhibits, HR & Accounting
- Profit & Loss management to ensure that the company achieves targets for growth and profitability
- Monitor and maintain organization performance and prepare detailed updates and forecasts
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders
Requirements
Required skills and qualifications
- Three or more years of experience in executive leadership roles
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve, personal integrity and discernment
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
- Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
- Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues

- Broad Business to Consumer experience
- Will consider non-industry experienced professional
