ABOUT THE POSITION

The Chief Operating Officer (COO), at Samaritans Inc. is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization's operations, financial management, and strategic planning. The COO plays a crucial role in driving operational excellence, fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, and ensuring the organization's financial sustainability. This position collaborates closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the leadership team to advance the organization's mission. The COO provides visionary guidance, promotes effective operations, and empowers the team to achieve organizational goals while upholding Samaritans' commitment to DEI principles and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.


WHAT YOU'll DO

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Develop and implement financial management systems, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports, including budget analysis, cash flow projections, and financial statements, to the CEO, Board of Directors, and relevant committees.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with program managers and department heads to develop program budgets, monitor spending, and ensure alignment with overall financial goals.
  • Oversees the annual audit and tax filing process

Human Resources Management

  • Oversee the human resources function, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, and employee relations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that promote a supportive and inclusive work environment, fostering DEI values.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and reporting obligations.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on HR-related matters, fostering team empowerment and promoting employee well-being.
  • Collaborate with leadership to further DEI initiatives and contribute to the organization's overall mission and goals in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Create an organizational culture that prioritizes emotional well-being and supports a positive work environment.

Strategic Planning &Team Leadership

  • Collaborate with the CEOand other members of the leadership team to implement the strategic plan, ensuring alignment with Samaritans' mission, vision, and values.
  • Drive operational excellence by establishing clear objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and metrics to measure success.
  • Monitor and evaluate organizational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing effective strategies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration across all operational functions.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers by leading and developing high-performing teams while fostering a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace.

Administration: IT, Compliance, & Operations Management

  • Provide support and guidance to Sr. D of Admin who holds responsibility for IT, Compliance, Benefits Management & Facilities.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for IT infrastructure, systems, and services to support Samaritans Inc.'s operational needs.
  • Collaborate with IT staff and external vendors to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of technology systems.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends, making recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage the organization's facilities, including leases, maintenance, safety, and security.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and accessibility standards.
  • Develop and implement facility management plans to support efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Identify and manage operational risks, including compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role with responsibility for operations management, financial oversight, and strategic planning, preferably in the nonprofit sector or a related field.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic financial planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, streamline processes, and optimize resource allocation.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of developing and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within an organization, with a commitment to advancing DEI initiatives and fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Knowledge of mental health, suicide prevention, or related fields is advantageous.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support the organization's mission and goals.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Minimum starting salary is $150,000/year and will be set based on experience and skill set.

Samaritans' employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption. Currently our office is re-open on a hybrid schedule with an average of 2 days per week in office, after a period of onboarding for new hires. Out of state applicants will be required to relocate to Massachusetts within six months of employment and also work the same hybrid schedule as all employees.
