The Cafe Operations Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day Cafe Operations at your respective location; maintaining all standard operating procedures and fostering a positive working environment. The person in this role creates the tone and personality of the cafe and team by being an advocate and promoter of training and development, customer service, relationship extension, product knowledge, cost management, department of health and sanitation adherence, and values alignment amongst team members. This individual will also work closely with the Retail Operations Manager.
Essential Functions
1. Ensuring the store is providing consistently excellent products and service, and that the environment is inviting, clean, and well stocked.
2. Building a well-developed and high performing team that works together collaboratively and upholds the Madcap standards.
3. Promoting a positive staff morale and favorable image in the community as a local company committed to quality and hospitality.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Bar Operation and Budgeting
2. Perform barista tasks during scheduled shifts (20-25 hours per week): prepare drinks, provide an outstanding customer experience, operate point of sale, stock products, and clean the cafe.
3. Ensure a clean, attractive, and inviting cafe environment.
4. Create and execute plans to elevate product quality and customer experience, as well as minimize waste (Zero Waste Program) and reduce costs.
5. Participate in financial goals of store including development and implementation of systems for increasing efficiency and profitability of the store.
6. Monitor and manage labor levels to increase efficiency without sacrificing quality or customer experience.
7. Maintain vendor relationships and keep products in stock by ordering products or communicating café inventory needs to the Wholesale Department/Roastery.
8. Maintain relationships with food vendors, including placing orders, assess opportunities for introducing new product and work with Retail Operations Director for launch of new product, tracking and minimizing waste.
9. Maintain scheduled preventative maintenance on all equipment, and work with the Facilities and Procurement Manager to ensure that all equipment is in proper working order.
10. Troubleshoot small repairs and work with the Retail Operations Manager/Facilities Manager toward a resolution on larger repairs.
11. Maintain safety of the cafe environment and ensure proper handling and storage of food products.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
1. Recruit, hire, and supervise a team of baristas for coffee bar operation.
3. Demonstrate leadership in coffee preparation, bar management, and hospitality.
4. Create weekly schedules for the coffee bar team, adjust hours and shift as necessary.
5. Facilitate communication between coffee bar team and work any issues towards resolution.
6. Maintain complete knowledge of all coffees and retail products, stay up-to-date on emerging products, promotions, and policies and ensure education of coffee bar team.
7. Work with Retail Operations Manager to develop leadership within team including hiring and supervise lead baristas.
8. Educate and ensure coffee bar team is upholding company procedures and policies, use corrective action as necessary.
9. Promote positive staff morale and relationships with staff members.
10. Working with HR Director maintain calendar of staff member reviews, including scheduling and facilitation of reviews.

Supervisory Responsibility
This role manages and directs staff management in retail sales and development. The role is responsible for the supporting the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports and for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s retail policies and applicable laws.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently will be standing for bar shifts. This role routinely will also use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of café operations and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Evening and weekend work will be required.
Travel
The position may require some travel throughout the year but is limited to local and occasional overnight trips.
