The Buyer II reports to the Purchasing Manager. This position is responsible for the management of medium to high complex commodities by effectively managing material inventory and back order levels to meet budget guidelines and goals set by top management.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do:
- Collaborate with internal customers and departments to effectively support the business
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure continuous improvement in customer service and on-time delivery by maintaining a positive vendor partnership. Report supplier performance relative to delivery, cost, reliability, and quality to management.
- Work in tandem with Accounts Payable staff to monitor the flow of supplier payments and to resolve any issues that arise.
- Partner with Sourcing Specialist on short and long-term procurement planning programs to assure adequate quantities of suitable materials are placed on order per MRP to meet actual requirements at the lowest total costs.
- Maintain purchasing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for internal and external customers. Improve processes by simplifying, eliminating, or combining tasks and paperwork.
- Maintain accurate up-to-date cost records for management's appraisal of purchasing performance and for the analysis of trends to assist in strengthening the company's bargaining position with suppliers.
- Analyze, evaluate, and negotiate quotations submitted directly or in response to bid requests to assure that quality, capability, and costs are satisfactory.
- Contact via phone daily and meet with suppliers regularly to maintain good relationships and keep both Metagenics and suppliers informed about demand forecasts, payment issues, material availability, process capability, delivery commitments, cost, product specifications, quality conformance, and performance reports.
- Promptly notify key stakeholders of any significant supply disruption and convene the material review board (MRB).
- Monitor and report supplier performance relative to delivery, cost, reliability, and quality.
- Maintain close coordination with the Sourcing Specialist on market intelligence and report changes in pricing levels and potential problem areas or conditions, which could adversely affect the company's procurement position.
- Maintain close coordination with Production Planning and Quality Control to ensure that adequate quantities of ingredients are available for scheduled production.
- Using MRP output, process purchase requisitions, generate and place purchase orders with suppliers. Follow up and expedite orders with suppliers issuing change orders, cancellations as required.
- Personally abide by and enforce ethical practice in all dealings with company suppliers.
- Recommend improvements in the company's internal procedures when and if required.
- Expedite solution of problems that arise concerning to quality, delivery, reliability, and cost that cannot be handled by a buyer I.
- Aggressively seek and recommend cost savings possibilities based upon new sources, substitutions, improved systems or new items. Attend scheduled department and team meetings (Planning, Product Development, Quality, etc.).
- Lead projects within the department in partnership with the Sourcing Specialist and Purchasing Manager.
- Mentor coworkers as assigned by the Purchasing Manager or Human Resources.
- Continue personal training and education through Metagenics workshops and training offered outside the company.
- Periodically report on overall purchasing activity.
- Maintain purchasing databases and files (P.O., File, Vendor listing, standard cost etc.)
What you'll need:
- Five years' as a Buyer in a dynamic, fast-paced, manufacturing purchasing environment and /or related field preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Business or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred
- Familiarity with basic Quality Control procedures and operations
- Active ISM member preferred
- Continuing education that focused on CPM or APP curriculum
- Effective inventory planning and scheduling techniques
- Effective purchasing negotiation skills
- Knowledge of Enterprise resource planning (ERP) and MRP Material requirements planning, preferably in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365)Supply chain management and supplier partnering techniques
Physical requirements/working conditions:
- Sits at a computer station, meeting table or work desk for more than two-thirds of each day
- Stands and walks to other stations and departments throughout the day
- Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment most of the day
- May stoop or crouch to access files or storage
- Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses
- Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and especially via the telephone
- Lifts up to 10 pounds regularly; lifts 25 pounds occasionally
- Exposed to noise levels typical of office environments
Compensation:
The current range for this role based out of Gig Harbor, WA is $31.25 - $34.14.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
