Business Analyst - Product Lead
At EXL we are looking for an experienced Business Analyst in Columbia, SC. In this role you will be a member of a platform development team that builds, supports, and maintains web-based applications that support business operations and customers in the Property & Casualty Insurance domain. This is a Business Analyst position that will be assigned projects of moderate complexity and will report to the Platform Owner.
This position will include a full range of BA activities from understanding business processes, eliciting, and documenting requirements, translating requirements into technical design, and coordinating communication among various business groups and technical teams.
To be successful in this role, you will need strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills to understand and communicate business needs, assess solutions, and document detailed requirements.
Responsibilities:
- The Business Analyst will act as a professional liaison between client/executive project management and the agile development team for assigned projects
- Business Analyst will work directly with client and/or business stakeholders to define project/application requirements, facilitate the creation of user stories with the project team, provide feedback to the project team, provide demos to client and/or business stakeholders and support the client or business team for transition from development to production and post-production support.
- Review business processes from end-to-end and identify risks and opportunities for improvement, document functional and non-functional requirements.
- Partner with the Platform Owner /Product Owner to decompose Epic work requirements and priorities into features.
- Create detailed user stories for defined features.
- Responsible for execution of assigned user stories and associated product/deliverables including grooming with other team members, estimating, answering questions, ensuring that the correct acceptance criteria is achieved.
- Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements verbally or through written communication to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood.
- Escalate risks to Platform Owner and/or Product Owner.
- Manage scope; partner with business stakeholders and product owners to assess and evaluate change requests or scope change for feasibility and impacts on commitments.
- As needed, engage with Architects or technical leads to understand potential impacts and for design solution discussions and/or estimations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues post-delivery and/or maintenance items or other issues identified by end users.
- Become a SME on our product/applications, business users and workflow.
- Perform data analysis using SQL and other tools as necessary.
- Build an environment of trust, collaboration, and openness among peers and other team members. Share lessons learned, perceptions, and best practices openly with an eye towards continuous process improvement.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in Business Analyst roles of increasing responsibility
- 3+ years using Agile Scrum methodology
- Strong preference for anyone with experience in Property Casualty Insurance, and/or Insurance Subrogation
- Must be a critical thinker, have an eye for detail, and natural problem solving ability
- Must be capable of learning new technology in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional communicator, able to quickly read and write technical specifications and documentation, as well as conduct presentations with clients, stakeholders, and project staff
- Ability to think-on-your-feet, adapt as situations change and make the best possible decisions with the information at-hand
- Good time manager, able to juggle numerous tasks simultaneously to meet project deadlines with little supervision in a demanding environment.
- Strong written and verbal skills plus the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences at all experience levels is essential.
- A solid understanding with Agile software development life cycles (SCRUM)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while under pressure.
- Must work well in a team-based environment
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
