Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our team. As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately processing and managing medical billing and coding tasks. Your role will involve working with medical records, insurance claims, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze medical records to identify appropriate billing codes (ICD-9, ICD-10) for procedures, diagnoses, and services rendered
- Enter billing information into the system accurately and efficiently
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for procedures
- Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically or by mail
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving any issues or discrepancies
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries or disputes
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with privacy regulations
- Collaborate with the medical office team to ensure accurate documentation and coding practices
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding systems (e.g., DRG) and billing regulations
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Billing Specialist or similar role in a medical office setting
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems, and medical billing procedures
- Familiarity with insurance claim processes and reimbursement guidelines
- Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for billing purposes
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
- Strong analytical skills to review medical records and identify appropriate codes
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to privacy regulations
