Job purpose
Manage all aspects of the Barton Reading Program including learner intake and testing; tutor recruitment, training, and support; and knowledge of best practices for individual reading instruction, including dyslexia and related learning disabilities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer tutors
- Manage intake and assessment of learners’ skills to determine eligibility for tutoring
- Evaluate the progress of learners annually
- Tutor learner(s) to remain familiar with tutoring techniques
- Manage school and community partnerships, including providing training, testing, and support for summer Reading Program partnerships
- Manage learner data for communications, writing grants, and measuring progress
- Participate in grant writing, fund development, and social media activities for the Barton program and the Legacy Center
- Manage Barton materials, learner files, and program billing, including paper and electronic records, with support from office manager,
- Commit to continuous skill improvement through practice, education, and monitoring current research in the field of reading and learning disabilities
Qualifications
Required:
- Three years of tutoring experience with Barton Reading & Spelling or similar phonics-based programs, such as Orton-Gillingham, 95% Group, or Wilson
- Five years of experience working with learners with special needs or learning disabilities
- Understanding and compassion for families and learners with learning disabilities
- Commitment to working with all people, regardless of age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, or age
- Ability to collect and interpret learner test scores and program data
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Associate’s Degree
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience in public speaking and ability to reflect the Legacy Center’s mission and values in a professional manner at all times
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team serving a variety of learner needs and abilities
Working conditions
- Flexible hours with work primarily at the Legacy Center office
- Full-time
- Participate in occasional evening/weekend fundraising or Literacy Services events
- Close the Legacy Center office in the evening periodically
- Lead tutor training sessions (12 hours) quarterly, occasionally in the evenings
Physical requirements
This job is performed in standard office conditions. Sitting for extended periods of time is required. Moving office and training supplies (less than 20 lbs) is also required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
