The Program Coordinator for GM Student Corps is an integral part of the Talent Equity team that evaluates how equity is infused within the processes, policies, and procedures of the talent lifecycle.  We strive to promote inclusion through innovative workforce solutions and anticipate skills for the all-electric integrated future and aligning with GM business priorities.  This role will coordinate the GM Student Corp program, in a fast-paced environment and deals extensively with internal contact and organizations like Corporate Giving, external partners such as High Schools and nonprofits and various community organizations. This candidate will support Talent Equity strategies, processes, and programs across the GM enterprise.

About GM Student Corps (GMSC):

Each summer GM partners with Detroit, Flint and Pontiac high schools for a summer-long program, each of which selects 8 students to participate in the program. Every group of high schoolers is paired with two GM retirees, and one college intern to help them on their summer journey of personal and professional growth. The team works together to identify, plan, and execute projects that will better their communities and schools – these vary from creating reading programs at their elementary schools to park revitalization. In this unique role, the Program Coordinator leads the overall program, creating and implementing curriculum and framework to shape the lives of both the high school students and college interns.

Responsibilities:

Under limited supervision, this position provides diverse coordination support by performing a variety of routine and non-routine tasks. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages all aspects of the GMSC program, including budget oversight, event coordination, high school partnerships, curriculum development, recruiting and onboarding of all participants (high school, college and retiree)
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support and build GM’s talent pipeline opportunity
  • Gather and analyze data for various reports
  • Give public presentations on behalf of GMSC representing General Motors
  • Assist with GM Cares employee engagement activities, the management of nonprofit partnerships, and strategy, including budget, communications plan
  • Convene key leaders and stakeholders on issues that advance the GM strategies and community investments
  • Build and manage relationships to enable change by leading and/or guiding relationships with key stakeholders in the community to advance GM’s core values and strategies
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.

Additional Description

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in the education, corporate giving/foundation and/or nonprofit sector, program administration, or graduate of the GMSC
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines; proven ability to multi-task, ability to deal with changing priorities
  • Experience with presenting, coordinating and organizing meetings or workshops.
  • Proactive with ability to work independently and as part of a team -- making informed decisions in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with various corporate, nonprofit and public audiences.
  • Strong planning, administrative, and organizational skills; attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to create and manage an operational and project budget.
  • Strong technology skills including OneNote, Teams, Workday and MS office suite, as well as experience with digital and social media
  • Strong interest in the field of talent and/or community development
  • Agility; ability to deal with changing priorities
  • Ideal candidate is a self-starter and team player with excellent project management and analytical skills

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; related program experience a strong plus.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren or Detroit three times per week, at minimum.
