ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Finance Department is filling an Account Clerk III position in the Treasury and Debt Management Division. This position is assigned to the Banking and Cashiering section to provide City of Phoenix departments with cashiering services related to the receipt, deposit, recording, and custody of City funds. Assignments come from interactions with external customers and other Finance divisions and departments, such as the Finance/Accounts Division for unidentified accounts receivable payments and refunds; the Finance/Tax Division, and various other departments (Police Department, Municipal Court, Public Works/badging) for City of Phoenix payments; and the Parks, Aviation, and Police Departments regarding Notice of Violation parking tickets.
Responsibilities include:
- Responding to over-the-counter inquiries and assisting walk-in customers with City payments;
- Maintaining security of area by following proper cash handling procedures, properly accessing the City's point-of-sale system (iNovah), and ensuring all negotiable items are locked up at night.
- Balancing and closing iNovah workstation at the end of shift and notifying Accountant I or Accountant II of any discrepancies.
- Providing over the phone customer service for Notice of Violation (parking tickets) and other City of Phoenix payments.
- Emptying curb deposit boxes daily.
- Picking up, sorting, and distributing mail.
- Processing and safeguarding credit cards.
These responsibilities require the accurate and efficient handling of cash, balancing, and preparing multiple deposits daily; and processing invoices, remittances, and other paperwork associated with payments. This position reports directly to the Accountant II and the work hours are 8:15 A.M to 5:15 P.M., Monday through Friday, with specific days of the month restricted from vacation/time-off due to deadlines.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Is comfortable working in a high volume customer service environment.
- Has knowledge of cash handling and banking policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates:
- Exceptional computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
SALARY
Pay Range: $19.07 to $29.58 per hour.
Hiring Range: $19.07 to $26.83 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of bookkeeping and clerical accounting experience,
- Including experience in preparing financial reports.
- Supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and accounting.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience providing face-to-face and over the phone customer service.
- Experience working with point-of-sale systems and a computerized accounting system such as SAP and Customer Care & Billing (CC&B).
- Experience in/with:
- Reconciling receivable and payable statements, reports, logs, and/or other documents.
- Handling cash and various transactions, while following cash handling practices.
- Performing highly detailed data entry in a fast-paced environment and maintaining/auditing records.
- Fluency in Spanish (speak, read, write), is preferred.
