Position Description
The R&D Associate, Sensory Science , assists in the implementation of sensory, consumer and analytical testing of fruits and vegetables , and will contribute to research planning, execution, data analysis, visualization, and product insights. Working under the guidance of the Sensory Lead, the "Associate" will work independently and contribut e ideas to improve research. The "Associate" will organize product knowledge under minimum supervision and will assist other R esearch A ssociates and T echnicians in R&D trials and work in greenhouse on a need basis.
Responsibilities
- Assist the execution of sensory and consumer tests under the direction of the project lead.
- Perform analytical lab testing using specialized instruments, including but not limited to refractometer, texture analyzer, non-destructive spectrometer and camera, refractometer, fruit acid meter and others.
- Gather, analyze, and organize knowledge to benefit all employees.
- Analyze data and gather information to create insights for projects.
- Travel to U.S. or Canada locations to conduct on-site sensory and analytical testing without supervision.
- Assist with all growing activities as appropriate including seeding, transplanting, irrigating, pruning, pest control, pollinating and harvesting.
- Ensure proper hygiene and safety protocols are always followed.
Required Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
- Analyze food products, using analytical methods and/or sensory evaluation.
- Strong mathematical and scientific aptitude.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office and exhibit strong skillset in learning new software.
- Intermediate statistical analysis and knowledge management skills.
- Eager to learn, be resourceful and adapt.
- Brings an entrepreneurial mindset to the team, is a transformational thinker.
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
Preferred Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
- Experience in postharvest quality testing of fruits and vegetables.
- Experience in data analysis and visualization.
- Experience in sensory evaluation of food
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, agriculture, food science or a related discipline
