Protein Science Associate Scientist

Spectrix Analytical Services, LLC is searching for a candidate for a full-time permanent Associate Scientist position to support a Protein Science team for a large pharmaceutical client in La Jolla, CA. We seek an individual with interest in protein crystallization. This position may present the opportunity to cross-train and support other areas, including but not limited to assay execution and automation, and high throughput mass spectrometry.

Job Responsibilities

• Crystallization, inspection, harvesting and freezing of proteins complexed with small molecules for X-ray diffraction analysis.
• Crystallization with micro and macro-seeding techniques and proficiency with various ligand soaking and co-crystallization protocols.
• Operation of automated liquid handling robotics for screen formulation, drop setting, etc.
• Additional responsibilities include experimental design and set up, documentation in database(s), maintaining lab notebooks.
• Purification resupply and polishing of precedented soluble proteins for structural studies using established protocols.

Qualifications

• A minimum of B.S. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent science major is required with 1-5 years of related experience is desired.
• Experience in Protein crystallization is required.
• Experience with membrane Protein crystallization via lipidic cubic phase (LCP) is preferred.
• Experience with SPT Dragonfly or other automated liquid handling robotics for screen formulation is preferred.
• Experience with antibody/Fab/antigen complexes for structural studies is preferred.
• Experience with AKTA Pure, gravity flow columns, buffer exchanging is preferred.
• Experience with detergent extraction and purification of precedented membrane proteins is preferred.
• Experience with various biophysical experiments to characterize SOP based protein stability and ligand binding (thermofluor/DSF screening/analytical SEC/etc.) is preferred.
• The individual should be well organized and detail oriented.
• The individual should have good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Learning agility with proven critical thinking skills

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
