Associate General Counsel - Employment
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a leading independent global professional services firm, specializing in providing turnaround management, performance improvement and advisory services, is seeking an Associate General Counsel specializing in Employment in its New York office covering U.S. operations.
Reporting to the General Counsel, this key member of the legal team will assist in protecting the organization's legal interests and provide hands-on support to our HR team, management, and consulting staff.
Responsibilities
Act as a business partner to the Human Resources department and company management by advising on employee matters, including but not limited to employee relation issues, employment compliance and legal requirements and employee disputes.
Work closely on senior employee contract and executive compensation matters
Manage and execute internal investigations.
Responds to and defends certain employee related claims (i.e., EEOC charges, wage and hour investigations, discrimination claims, etc.).
Provide practical training for risk avoidance and best practices to the business units and Human Resources team.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience as an attorney with a specialty in employment law. Mix of in-house and external experience preferred, but not required.
Significant understanding of core US employment law principles
Refined employment contract drafting skills to support complex compensation arrangements
Experience in handling or overseeing employment cases such as wrongful termination, discrimination, or harassment cases.
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
Ability to prioritize and complete zero-defect work products in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills to be utilized to effectively communicate with clients and A&M executives.
Strong organizational and project management skills
Takes ownership of issues, is highly responsive and driven to take action quickly.
The salary range is $175,000- $250,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
