Description:
The Department of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. We seek applicants in 1) Software Engineering and 2) Data Science (broadly defined, including, but not limited to, data management/engineering, data analytics and visualization, cloud and cyber-infrastructure, machine learning, data security). Exceptional candidates in related areas are also encouraged to apply.
UH Manoa is an R1 university located in Honolulu, and the flagship campus of the University of Hawaii system. It is the fourth most diverse campus in the US, and includes world-renowned programs in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering, the Institute for Astronomy, and John A. Burns School of Medicine. Current areas of expertise in the ICS department include machine learning, visualization, VR/AR and immersive environments, high performance computing, human-computer interaction, security, bioinformatics, and algorithms, and ICS faculty help lead the Hawaii Data Science Institute. The department is seeking applicants who will complement and strengthen its current expertise and improve its research and educational standings among peers in the areas of Software Engineering and Data Science.

First review of applicants will begin 03/31/2024 with continuous recruitment until position is filled. To begin approximately August 2024, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertaking a program of independent research
- Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses
- Contributing to the academic and scientific life of the ICS Department
- Participation in university committees
- Helping to serve as academic advisor to students
- Performing related tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned PhD in Computer Science or related areas by the time of the appointment
- Demonstrated research and development experience in Software Engineering or Data Science
- Demonstrated an outstanding research record
- Demonstrated ability to lead a research program involving students and postdocs
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and a strong potential for securing external funding
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working in collaboration with a domain-specific area in the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, humanities, business, arts, or other disciplines
