    TITLE
    Assistant Communication Specialist
    JOB GOAL
    To assist the District Communications Specialist & Community Liaison in planning and executing the use of a diverse set of communication strategies to advance the mission of the Fairport Central School District. To facilitate proactive relationships between the

    District and the community and oversee any assigned campaigns or projects.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or closely related field
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong sense of storytelling best practices
    • Proficient in PR and communication tools and platforms, as well as social media management tools
    • Familiarity with online publishing tools and website platform maintenance
    • Broad understanding of web design, digital photography, videography, and graphic design
    • Familiarity with video, audio and photo editing
    • Ability to create persuasive and compelling content for print and online, including graphic design
    • Familiarity with media outreach and press releases
    • Attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
    • Strong project prioritization skills
    • Ability to work independently and under deadline and with urgency
    • Ability to work with a wide variety of team members and stakeholders and be responsive to the needs of the school community
    • Candidate must be on the current Monroe County Civil Service Information Specialist Civil Service list, currently hold the Monroe County Civil Service title of Information Specialist or be eligible to take the Monroe County Information Specialist Civil Service exam.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Working under District Communications Specialist & Community Liaison (CSCL) and the Office of the Superintendent
    • Helping build and maintain FCSD’s reputation and ensure consistent communication with our stakeholders, including parent engagement
    • Support communication projects within the District as assigned by the CSCL
    • Independently create compelling written and visual content for press releases, articles, newsletters and social media
    • Support CSCL to produce multimedia content for PR purposes
    • Facilitate internal communications to ensure consistent messaging among team members
    • Work under CSCL to consistently maintain District website and social media channels, and to monitor social media
    • Attends major school events as needed, including Board of Education meetings, for the purpose of staying abreast of district-wide news and events
    • Maintains open lines of communication with all community organizations and provides prompt responses to requests for general information about the district, its policies, and its programs
    • Develops and produces special publications for the district as the need arises as directed by the CSCL
    • Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Office of the Superintendent or the CSCL


    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Twelve-month work year (1860 hours)
    Competitive salary (minimum $26.50/hour) and benefits

    The Office of the Superintendent and the Communication Specialist & Community Liaison

    Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Communication Specialist & Community Liaison
