The Area Superintendent (AS) plays a pivotal role in managing a designated section of a construction project, directly reporting to the Project Superintendent. This position encompasses a range of duties akin to those of the Project Superintendent, tailored to the specific segment of the project under their charge. Key responsibilities include ensuring safety compliance, overseeing craft personnel and production, managing subcontractors, handling scheduling and materials, preparing daily reports, upholding quality standards, and facilitating craft training within their designated area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Management: Collaborate with foremen to prepare Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and Site Task Analyses (STAs) for all direct tasks and review subcontractors' AHAs as per the Safety & Health Manual Section SH B06.
- Project Planning: Devise plans for material handling and site utilization specific to assigned areas. Liaise with project and office engineers regarding material requirements, Request for Information (RFIs), and other necessities.
- Scheduling: Contribute to overall project scheduling and maintain a detailed 4-week schedule for the assigned area.
- Team Coordination and Supervision: Manage and guide the company's workforce within the designated area.
- Development: Mentor field engineers, foremen, and craft personnel.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Organize and lead weekly meetings with subcontractors' foremen to ensure smooth operations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain precise records of timekeeping and costs to inform future bids.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee all aspects of quality control within the project, for both the company and subcontractors.
- Log Maintenance: Keep comprehensive project logs.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other tasks as assigned by the project superintendent or project manager.
- Technical Proficiency: Understand the alignment of the VDC Scope of Work, VDC Execution Plan, and VDC deliverables with field operations planning strategies. Capable of reviewing and navigating within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software and collaborating effectively with the VDC team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
- A minimum of 5-6 years of experience in large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, as well as Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.
- Skilled in construction layout, interpreting blueprints, and understanding shop drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: The compensation for this position ranges between $90,000 and $120,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
