Job description

What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Asphalt Plant Superintendent II or Superintendent III level, depending on the experience and skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for a Superintendent who will be responsible for management of Asphalt Plant production operations and aggregate management.
LANL has produced asphalt for the past 20 years with a batch plant operation. In 2023, a new plant was acquired; an ADM EX120 Counter Flow Asphalt Plant. The annual asphalt tonnage production is estimated to be 20-30 thousand tons.
The Asphalt Plant Production Superintendent will be a part of highly creative, diverse, fast-paced, efficient team challenged with supporting fascinating and challenging growth for the National Laboratory site. LANL continues to experience tremendous growth in mission and increasing needs in new infrastructure and maintenance of existing facilities. The asphalt produced is to supply project needs within the laboratory complex and not for commercial sale. The specifications for asphalt production are the New Mexico State Department of Transportation specifications.
Aggregates are purchased from a third-party supplier and mix design has been developed for the aggregate. The quality testing is provided by a third-party testing laboratory.
The Superintendent will oversee all aspects of the asphalt production with the transportation and placement of final product to be performed by others.
The superintendent will report directly to the LOG-HERG Group Leader.
