Application Engineer

SUMMARY
The Application Engineer will join a group of IT professionals focusing on all phases of application development ensuring development standards and best practices are consistently followed. JOANN utilizes application software from industry-leading enterprise vendors such as Oracle, IBM, SAP, JDA, Demandware, Microsoft, etc. The primary programming language used for enterprise applications is SAP ABAP for SAP systems, and Java and JavaScript for Web Development. However, the team member must have a thorough understanding of web services and their applications (design, deployment, integration). As a team member within the IT organization, this role will contribute daily to the health and welfare of JOANN's IT systems. Through a mix of daily support and project deliverables, this position will be provided with opportunities for learning, growth and advancement. Responsibilities extend to the Store Support Center (SSC), 3 distribution centers and multi-channel retail practices through over 820 stores and JOANN.com. The total user environment consists of over 18,000 team members.
JOB DUTIES

• Application Build:
  • Builds solutions either through application configuration or coding that meet or exceed documented business requirements. Configuration and code development of applications that conform with development standards and sound coding practices.
• Systems Testing:
  • In cooperation with other IT teams, plans, designs and executes end-to-end tests that ensure solution design and implementation meet or exceed the documented solution requirements.
• Systems Support:
  • Provides support for current production systems. Resolves problems and incidents in compliance with established resolution SLAs. Determines and documents root cause of problems. Determines and documents root cause of problems. Works on improving systems and processes ensuring simplicity, stability and efficiency.
• Application Design:
  • Assist with the architecture and design of system and process solutions that support the functional specifications and the framework of our IT strategy and technical platform. Ensures technical solution designs are consistent with departmental standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education Minimum: Bachelor's degree in computer science, business or related field
Experience Minimum: 2+ years relevant professional experience
Experience Preferred: 5+ years relevant experience in a large retail information technology environment.

• Has relevant engineering or development experience.
