The Applications Engineer I is responsible at the division level for the architecture and design of applications, developing technical standards used for new projects, next generation platform transition strategies, and working across AHM IT to ensure DMS alignment with the overall technology strategy of the business unit. The Applications Engineer I will use a deep understanding of technology and the business supported by DMS to work with division leadership on digital transformation and modernization initiatives. The Applications Engineer I works with IT research consulting firms and Honda technology partners to understand industry trends and best practices. This position will provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to Application Architects, domain technical experts, and other technical staff within DMS.
- Work with DMS Division Leaders on strategic initiatives related to next generation platforms to enable digital transformation, modernization, and standardization.
- Establish and document technical roadmaps, standards, and best practices for DMS product teams in collaboration with AHM IT business unit domain leads. Drive communication of the standards across DMS, consult with product teams on proper usage, and measure effectiveness related to achieving DMS goals.
- Design end-to-end enterprise solutions for DMS division working with DMS product teams, Enterprise Architecture, and domain SME’s across the AHM IT business unit.
- Increase overall efficiency of DMS by driving the adoption of DevOps practices, container-based solutions, automated testing and security checks, CI/CD pipelines, consumption-based infrastructure, and AWS cloud services.
- Lead the design and development of the DMS strategy for system integration and data migration in support of the rationalization program.
- Create project architecture deliverables and present to ARB in support of J-Flow.
- Represent DMS architecture team on initiatives to align North America region with global IT project implementations.
- B.S./M.S. degree in Computer Science or related field
- 7+ years experience with the design and implementation of enterprise level IT applications
- 5+ years experience developing reference architecture, principles, and standards across a broad mixture of technologies
- 3+ years experience in Kubernetes based platforms, DevOps, microservice design patterns, CI/CD automation, J2EE, and enterprise RDBMS
- 3+ years experience with AWS services, public cloud, and hybrid cloud implementations
- Expert level technical skills in Java, .NET, or similar development technology
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong leadership with the ability to drive solution definition across multiple teams and domains
- Ability to relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
- Experience in management level presentations
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies
- Excellent understanding of software architectural patterns
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and regulations
