Position Status
Full Time, 1,700 hours of service/35- 40 hours week
Half Time, 900 hours of service
Living Allowance
Full Time: $723.86 Bi-weekly Living Stipend + Monthly Healthcare reimbursement if eligible;
Half Time: $361.26 Bi-weekly Living Stipend + Monthly healthcare reimbursement if eligible
Education Award at successful completion of the contract:
  • Full Time - $$6,345
  • Half Time - $3172.50
Contract Term
Flexible term of service ranging from 6-12months
Shift
Days, Monday through Friday, open to work occasional nights and weekends if requested.
Requirements
Position Summary
If you have a deep commitment to help single men and women experiencing homelessness in our community, this job may be right for you! We are looking for a highly motivated person who is interested in making a difference in the lives of others.
The AmeriCorps member will help GMRC clients connect to internal and external resources, collaborating with a variety of community partners to quickly and efficiently refer clients to the appropriate services. This position will also be the GMRC's main coordinator for our newly renovated Computer Lab, helping clients with a variety of computer-related tasks and working to improve computer literacy for any interested guests. A high level of collaboration with case management, Housing Advocate, and other teams will be essential to this role's success, as well as working closely with GMRC clients and community partners.
In addition to housing related tasks, this AmeriCorps member will play an integral role in establishing a support and empowerment network for the men and women assisted by The Road Home. Additionally, they will assist in the operations of an internal task force that is designed to make the agency's facilities and programming, housing focused.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist shelter guests with computer literacy and activities related to technology.
  • Assist guests on accessing online resources.
  • Coordinate with case managers to help guests with computer related tasks
  • Conduct trainings/classes for guests on computer skills.
    • Setting up regular employment, housing, and other resource related computer trainings.
  • Help guests access or make online/phone appointments for court, mental health intakes, telehealth appointments, Social Security, DLD, immigration, and many others.
  • Create new signage and/or projects using digital software (digital signage, graphic design projects, etc.).
  • Working with clients to file online police reports when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Clear a full FBI Criminal background check, State background check, and the National Sex Offender Criminal background check.
  • Clear drug test.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. *Some or College degree in social services is a plus!
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Must have a current Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
Knowledge of and/or Willingness to Learn
  • Computer literate (i.e., Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience working and/or education in social services field a plus.
  • Issues impacting individuals who have been or are homeless.
  • Methods and techniques of effective case management and assessment skills.
  • Social service programs and community resources.
Skills
  • Ability to solve complex situations and diffuse explosive situations with professionalism, empathy, and from a Trauma Informed Care perspective.
  • Ability to approach problems pro-actively with a solution- based focus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with residents, co-workers, and other professionals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Basic understanding of Trauma Informed Care and Housing First philosophies and a willingness to incorporate them into your work on a daily basis.
  • Ability to provide constructive and professional feedback to clients.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Ability to display cultural competency, appreciation, compassion and understanding of the needs of clients.

Benefits
Option for Service:
Full-time members are required to commit to a full year service agreement and complete a "minimum" of:
  • 1,700 service hours
  • Education Award $6,345.00
  • Stipend amount bi-weekly $723.86

Half-time members are required to commit to a full year service agreement and complete a "minimum" of:
  • 900 service hours
  • Education Award $3,172.50
  • Stipend amount bi-weekly $361.26

Start date: Flexible with service ending 12 months from starting date.
  • AmeriCorps Members are provided a modest financial compensation in the form of cost-of-living allowances; referred to as a "living stipend" up to $18,850 annually for full-time and $9,425 for half-time;
  • Proof of Healthcare reimbursement up to Gold Level Plan on the Market Place if eligible and participation, paid Student Loan Deferment, Public Service Loan Forgiveness,
  • Child Care Assistance for qualified members
  • The AmeriCorps Education Award. After successfully completing their term of service, full time members may receive the Education Award of up to $6,345 while half-time members receive up to $3,172.50. The Education Award can pay for additional college, graduate school courses, or it can pay off existing qualifying federal student loans.
