Job description

  • A renowned entrepreneur and co-founder of The Home Depot, Arthur M. Blank is now recognized for his values-based Blank Family of Businesses and as one of America’s leading philanthropists through The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.
  • All of his industry-leading businesses and the Blank Family Foundation operate on six core values: Put People First, Listen and Respond, Include Everyone, Innovate Continuously, Lead by Example, Give Back to Others.
  • After 25 years and more than $950 million in giving as of August 2022, the Blank Family Foundation has committed to significantly escalating the impact of its philanthropy over the next 10+ years.
  • This milestone coincides with deeper participation among the next generation of Blank family members on the board and in advisory capacities, partnering around their shared core beliefs, including the Jewish value of tikkun olam (“heal and repair the world”), and seeking a fuller realization of American ideals.
  • The foundation works across several different programmatic areas, including Youth Development, Democracy, Environment, Atlanta’s Westside, Mental Health and Well Being.
  • The foundation also manages a large portfolio of founder-led initiatives and associate-led giving committees that operate across the Blank Family of Businesses.
  • Geographically, much of the foundation’s work prioritizes Georgia (with a focus on Atlanta) and Montana, while also considering the potential for greater national impact and influence.
  • To complement and amplify the impact of these giving areas, the foundation has two central functions whose teams partner with programmatic colleagues.
  • These functions include Communications and Effective Philanthropy.
  • The foundation leadership team is looking for three Administrative and Program Associates to support its work in these programmatic and operational areas.
  • Position Description Summary: As a key member of the foundation team, the Administrative & Program Associate will provide essential administrative, grants management and organizational support to the foundation leadership team.
  • The Administrative & Program Associate will support two Managing Directors and their respective bodies of work.
  • Key Responsibilities:Lead all administrative functions for both Managing Directors, including scheduling, travel arrangements and external correspondence where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with peer Associates to assure the foundation has a well-functioning set of business processes, meetings, and internal communication routines.
  • Handle the set up of consultant agreements and process invoices, demonstrating efficient use of workflows for contracts, invoices, and timely payment.
  • Organize internal and external meetings, conferences, grantee convenings and other special events.
  • Facilitate efficient grant making by managing internal workflows and maintaining regular, timely communication with grantees.
  • Support effective grants management by ensuring timely receipt and handling of submitted proposals, concept papers and other materials; create and maintain up-to-date grant files; draft correspondence and reports; and support ongoing communication with grantees.
  • Learn and effectively use the foundation’s grants management system (Cybergrants).
  • Support the writing and finalization of key documents for the team, grantees and the board.
  • Ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information Ability to master applicable company IT systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Humility, flexibility, self-awareness, accessibility, curiosity, a sense of humor, and the ability to work with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to act independently and handle multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience in philanthropy or other grantmaking entities, a plus APPENDIX: FOUNDATION GIVING AND OPERATIONS AREASCommunicationsThe Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation’s communications team helps shape the Foundation’s next chapter of giving.
  • Working with the Foundation President and all program areas, this team develops and executes communication strategies to advance the Foundation's mission.
  • Initiatives include digital media, public relations, and content development, among others.
  • Effective PhilanthropyThe Effective Philanthropy team provides internal advisory services to all programmatic and founder-led initiatives.
  • The Effective Philanthropy team’s core business will be to design and support teams with tools, guidance and structures for program strategy, monitoring, learning and evaluation; promote a dynamic culture of learning, rigor, and reflection; and collaborate within the Blank Family Foundation, across the Blank Family of Businesses and with peers and experts outside the organization to recognize and realize synergies and opportunities for impact.
  • Founder InitiativesIn addition to the collective areas of giving, the Blank Family Foundation oversees a large portfolio of Founder initiatives.
  • These efforts include diligence, execution and evaluation of the Foundation’s Founder Discretionary and Legacy grants, the seven Associate-Led Giving Committees, West Creek Ranch programming, and Sponsorships.
  • The Founder Initiatives team is based in both Atlanta and Montana.
  • Efforts to engage the youngest generation of Arthur Blank’s children also fall under the Founder Initiatives area of work.
  • Mental Health & Well-BeingThe purpose of the Mental Health and Well-Being Team is to contribute to the mission of the Foundation by developing and implementing strategies that address the mental health and well-being crisis in our country.
  • Through the mental health and well-being grants program, the Foundation will provide resources that enhance the lives of those who are disconnected from support they need to live a life filled with a sense of both belonging and purpose.
  • Westside AtlantaThe Foundation has an enduring commitment to Atlanta’s historic West Side, specifically the English Avenue and Vine City neighborhoods.
  • The Westside Atlanta team aims to create a vibrant community where legacy residents in both neighborhoods have tools and resources that support choice, enhance their economic mobility, and allow them to collectively thrive.
  • Youth DevelopmentThe Youth Development team will expand opportunities for youth far from opportunity, in Georgia and Montana, by supporting access to career pathways and social emotional learning and addressing systems that create barriers to both.
