Location and hours:
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
- Manage, from start to finish, all of the client appeals of eligibility for benefits in EWS.
- Represent the county at appeal hearings with DHS judges and EWS clients at the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
- Keep in contact with clients throughout the entire appeal process.
- Train staff on the appeal process.
- Draft appeal summaries.
- Answer questions regarding the appeal process.
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and four years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
- Eight or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
- Three or more years of experience working with Eligibility & Work Services.
- Experience determining whether individuals and families are eligible for government assistance programs.
- Experience helping individuals secure social services such as housing, medical care, education, food, and daily expenses.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with income programs including:
- Burial Assistance
- Cost-effective health insurance
- County-based Medical Assistance (MA)
- Emergency Assistance (EA)
- Emergency General Assistance (EGA)
- General Assistance (GA)
- Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
- Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA)
- Revenue recapture appeals (when taxes are used to cover overpayments)
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Transportation
- Knowledge of county and state systems, including Maxis, MMIS and MNSURE.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; including customer service, interaction with clients, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to:
- Be flexible, highly organized, and self-directed with strong documentation skills.
- Interact with clients and staff with tact, discretion, and sensitivity.
- Demonstrate understanding of cultural differences and the impacts of racism on service effectiveness, organizational effectiveness, and on relationships with staff, partners, and those we serve.
