Our hands-on curriculum inspires achievement through active learning, character growth, and teamwork. The mission of the Christa McAuliffe Charter School is to cultivate within each member of a diverse student body an intense commitment to self and community, the courage and insight to set high standards for academic and personal success, and the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to achieve those standards. What is Expeditionary Learning?Expeditionary Learning (EL) is a national organization that partners with schools to improve student achievement through an inquiry and project-based approach. ELs definition of student success combines academic achievement, character and high-quality work. We believe that academic success is built on strong character qualities of collaboration, perseverance, responsibility, and compassion, and that character is shaped through engaging and challenging academic work.
Position OverviewA Wellness Teacher at McAuliffe leads sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in a combination of health and fitness classes. Students attend Wellness enthusiastically (especially the fitness classes) because they are physically active in a really fun and engaging way. The health topics taught in each grade level are relevant to students lives: nutrition, sex education, substance abuse, peer pressure, dealing with stress and anxiety, etc. Due to both our philosophy and our physical space, we are seeking an educator who can think outside the box about what a physical education class can look like and who is committed to helping each student develop life skills to grow into healthy adults.

This means that you must be someone who finds sixth, seventh, and eighth graders much more entertaining than aggravating! You must be compassionate, have the ability to develop meaningful connections with students, have strong classroom management skills, and feel confident in your ability to create a psychologically safe classroom culture in which individuals are respected and valued for what they bring to the group. We are looking to hire an educator who values the idea that you, as well as your students, are always learning, reflecting, and growing.
