The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistantin the Department of Economic Development.

Summary of Duties

As the Administrative Assistant, you will:

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Office of Economic Development Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Director and Staff.
  • Receive and screen incoming calls and directs to appropriate staff and/or department.
  • Process purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, check requests, invoices, purchasing card reconciliations, travel expense reports, time sheets, and financial account tracking and related budgetary matters.
  • Arrange travel for the department by developing itineraries and agendas; booking transportation; arranging lodging, etc.
  • Work with staff and other departments to coordinate and maintain a master Economic Development Team calendar to ensure it is current and includes all board and city council meetings, internal/external functions, etc.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Economic Development and/or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will provide administrative support and assistance to the Office of Economic Development staff in the daily operation of the department by performing a wide variety of clerical tasks. They will interact with the public and employees from other departments in person, virtually, by email or over the telephone. They will perform a variety of secretarial, administrative, and office tasks, as well as a variety of specific duties to ensure service group objectives are achieved efficiently and deadlines are met.
Formal Education:


  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Some college and/or continuing education coursework is desirable
Relatable Work Experience:
  • One year of secretarial/administrative experience
  • Previous work experience in a municipality is a plus.
Training (License and/or Certification):
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
