The AIDS Center of Queens County, Inc. (ACQC) is strongly committed to providing HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and advocacy for individuals throughout the borough of Queens. ACQC seeks a highly organized and detailed Administrative Assistant to join the legal department. The Administrative Assistant will support the agency’s attorneys and ensure the smooth operation of the department. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week, $20/hour.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing general administrative duties such as data entry, file organization and storage, photocopying, faxing, answering and making telephone calls, maintaining and updating the department calendar, ordering office supplies, and hand-delivering packages to the post office and UPS.
- Contact and meet with clients in the office to provide translation. Occasional travel to courts located in NYC, Long Island, and New Jersey to provide translation for legal staff and clients. Occasional early morning and evening work outside of standard business hours, as required by court appearances, urgent client needs, and funding contract audits.
· Assisting the Director of Legal Services and Staff Attorneys with other administrative tasks as needed.
Required skills:
- College experience preferred.
- Minimum one year of administrative experience.
- Oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish.
- General computer proficiency; command of basic arithmetic.
- Ability and desire to master new tasks and protocols as assigned.
- Ability and willingness to carry up to 25 lbs. for short distances and up to 10 lbs. for distances up to a quarter mile.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels.
- Must be culturally competent and able to convey sensitivity and non-judgment in all interactions.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position based in Jamaica, Queens, near the E, F, and J trains and the LIRR.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn and develop with the department.
