Seattle-Tacoma Box Company is located in Kent, WA. We are a family-owned company, six generations strong for over 135 years under the same family management. Currently, Seattle-Tacoma Box conducts manufacturing and supports assembly operations and warehouses in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, and Arizona. The company specializes in the manufacturing of corrugated, corrugated plastic and wooden packaging used throughout the food industry.
The Kent, WA corporate headquarters of Seattle Tacoma Box is currently looking to add a qualified Accounts Payable Specialist to our team. The person selected for this role will work alongside the current Accounting Department members. The purpose of this position is to accurately account for and record the processing of payments for Seattle-Tacoma Box Company and its subsidiaries.
Summary of Position
The Account Payable Specialist will report directly to and work under the guidance of the Credit & Accounting Manager and is responsible for performing tasks related to accounting, reconciling GL accounts, vendor correspondence, issuing checks. The candidate for this role will understand the PO/receiving process and perform other accounting related duties as assigned.
Persons who are desiring a fully WFH/remote position should not apply for this job. This position will allow for the possibility to WFH 2 days a week upon successful completion of the 90-day probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Print invoices and purchase orders
- Match invoices to purchase orders
- Sort and organize invoices, purchase orders and backup documents received via email and mail
- Communicate with purchaser on PO discrepancies
- Verify and respond to payment inquiries
- Process payment through applicable software
- Void and reissue payment for lost checks
- Verify proper submission procedures for vendors
- Upload positive pay files through banking institution
- Dispute and/or resolves issues with questionable/incorrect invoices
- Match, code and key invoices into computer system
- Select and Run checks
- Communicate with coworkers and vendors to resolve discrepancies in a courteous and professional manner
- Communicate with Sales team to process credit card receipts
- Research vendor statements, phone calls and discrepancies
- File paid and unpaid invoices and statements
- Update vendor contact/remit info
- Process Credit applications
- Provide new vendors with necessary tax exemption forms or resale certificates
- Create and provide monthly vendor statements
- Process and create ACH payments
- Enter Cash flow info into appropriate system
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Requires an understanding of basic accounting principles
- Ability to process invoices /record payments and assist in month end reconciliation
- Ability to problem solve and multi-task
- Must be detail oriented with excellent organization
- Proficiency in MS office suite products and computerized accounting programs.
- Good math, language and reading skills; basic computer skills required
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and demanding work environment
- Ability to execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner
Education and Experience:
- At least 3 years related experience required
- Associates Degree preferred or education in general business classes in accounting required
Physical Demands and Abilities:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
