Candidates must be available to be scheduled during and around the hours of the Lunch at the Library program: Mondays - Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. from June 10, 2024 - July 25, 2024. Candidates must be available to begin the position during the week of June 3, 2024.

This position is funded by the Lunch at the Library Summer 2024 Project Grant and ends at the completion of the Lunch at the Library program on July 25, 2024. Regular schedule and minimum hours per week are not guaranteed.

DEFINITION:

The City of Orange is looking for an energetic and highly motivated Youth Workforce Development Intern to support Orange Public Library's Lunch at the Library program. The Lunch at the Library program is an annual onsite food service program for children and teens offered at the El Modena Branch Library for seven weeks during the summer. Interns will help support the Library's outreach efforts by assisting with the day-to-day operations of this program while developing their job readiness skills.

The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service, demonstrate a can-do attitude, and value teamwork at all levels of the organization. The candidate must be comfortable in a highly structured working environment and be a part of a cohesive work team. This is a part-time, non-benefited position for students and recent graduates. There are currently two (2) vacancies. The incumbent will be required to undergo a thorough background investigation as well as complete online training (paid for by the City) to receive food handling certification.

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of tasks including: program preparation, help with staging lunch area, meal and book distribution, statistics gathering, maintaining equipment, cleaning facilities, displaying appropriate signage, and assisting with special projects as needed.

Education and Experience:

Completion of the tenth (10th) grade in High School. Previous experience interacting with the public is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various City and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas and visiting and walking Parks and other sites may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
