Intern - Prototype & Development Engineering
The Prototype & Development Engineering Intern will be placed on a prototype build project to help design and develop parts that can be fabricated in-house.
Must be eligible to work up to 40 hours per week during the June - September time frame.
Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to):
- Works with the Prototype and Verification team as well as mechanical and electrical engineers to conceptualize, design, test, and build mechanical systems for a prototype vehicle.
- Conducts hand calculations and CAE analysis to guarantee performance on design(s).
- Works with fabricators to make designs.
- Integrates parts into the product and verify fit, form, and function.
- Assists Prototype and Development Engineer with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.
- Utilizes theoretical engineering and learn applied engineering/rapid prototyping technologies and methodologies.
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Related Technical Field
- Broad knowledge of all vehicle systems (including powertrain, chassis, electrical, thermal, exteriors, & interiors) & relative components, component materials & fasteners
- Experience in Formula SAE, EcoCar, or SAE Baja, or similar multi-domain projects.
- Experience using 3D Modeling tools such as Solidworks, CATIA, ProE or similar to design real world components.
- Proficient with desktop software (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Some experience with manufacturing instructions, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Some experience with instrumentation
- Moderate experience with hand and power tools
- Some experience with machining and lathe equipment
- Some experience with 3d printing
- Passion for automotive
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
- Reliable, innovative, committed self-starter, with a focus on quality.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Possess the desire and ability to learn new technologies.

Compensation:
$25/per hour - $35/per hour. Compensation will vary depending on the candidate's current level of education.
