Youth Learning and Outreach Internswill be a high school student or recent graduate passionate about engaging children, families and teens in library summer learning programs, experiences to help reduce summer learning loss, and connecting everyone to all our libraries have to offer.
Location: Interns will be assigned to a community library and work under the mentorship of a supervisor. County libraries include Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Library Administration, Millbrae, North Fair Oaks, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, Woodside. Interns actively engage youth in activities and experiences inside the library as well as by outreaching into the community as select community events in the broader city or County.
Schedule: This internship has a flexible and non-regular schedule. The intern will work 20 hours per week (Monday-Sunday). The hours will include weekends, vary, and may include evenings. Start and end dates are flexible and will be determined at the time of offer. These up to 12-week internships will start in June.
Salary: $21.08 hourly.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some Extra Help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.After training, interns will either lead and facilitate hands on learning experiences in library locations throughout San Mateo County or will conduct meaningful and culturally sensitive outreach in the community to engage participants in summer learning with the library and break down any barriers to accessing enriching summer learning experiences.Education: Enrolled in high school or are a 2024 high school graduate.
