The mission of the Children’s Museum Houston is to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children in Greater Houston.

For more than four decades, Children’s Museum Houston has supported student achievement, empowered parents, and ignited a life-long love of learning. We are consistently rated as one of the top children's museums in the nation. Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, and at 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.

Summary:

Children’s Museum Houston (CMH) seeks a Bilingual Outreach Education Intern to work on the NASA funded “Engaging Hispanic Communities” initiative. As part of this initiative, Children’s Museum Houston is in collaboration with Community Family Centers (CFC) to co-create bilingual STEM engagement that is culturally relevant with Hispanic community members. The Bilingual Project Coordinator Intern will work with CMH STEM educators, CFC staff and other community partners to develop, plan and facilitate activities for children ages 5 to 12 and their families in Houston’s Greater East End.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the Director of Outreach Programs and Science Educator.
  • Assist Science Educator in the prototyping and implementation of STEM activities for children and families in a variety of community settings (ie. parks, libraries, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Community Family Centers to develop events and recruit community partners for EHC engagement in the community.
  • Coordinate with community partners to host EHC activities and to recruit participants.
  • Collect and track program attendance, photos, and participant stories for monthly reporting.
  • Train, supervise, and coordinate volunteers and community partners in the engagement of EHC STEM modules.
  • Prepare materials and set up activity space for community events.
  • Lead EHC STEM modules in the community, including night and weekend events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications Required

Education:

  • Current college student that is a rising junior or senior in a science related program or a graduate student working toward a master's degree in the STEM or Education field.

Qualifications:

  • Self-starter who can produce results with limited supervision.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in English and in Spanish.

Other Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must possess working knowledge of computers and related software.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite of applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and possess skills for problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Must be efficient and detail oriented with a strong customer/constituent focus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management both internal and external to the Museum and with partners.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Currently reside or have resided in the Greater East End.

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
