About the position
Provide support services for the police department in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the St. Louis Park Police Department. Learn and shadow positions in a busy metro police department to experience and explore law enforcement career opportunities.
This internship will be regularly scheduled 20 - 25 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends, from June through August 2024.
There are three internships being offered in these areas:
Crime analysis
Assist the public safety data analyst identifying crime trends, creating reports, charts and bulletin to help guide the work of officers.
RecordsAssist the records department with customer service; processing data requests, case expungements, crime reporting, and permit applications; and other duties.
Community outreachAssist the Community outreach officer with community events and presentations.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Apply St. Louis Park Police Department's community-oriented policing philosophy in the course of regular duties.
- Assist the investigations division with case preparation and investigation.
- Actively participate in job shadowing opportunities within the police department.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as directed by department personnel.
- Communicate effectively with people from all cultures and backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age.
- Interest or intent to become eligible to start a career as a licensed police officer in Minnesota.
- Valid MN driver's license.
- Must have no felony convictions.
- Computer experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city's strategic objectives for advancing racial equity.
- Current or anticipated enrollment in a post-secondary institution focusing on public administration, law enforcement, or related field.
- Previous related work experience.
