The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) is seeking a paid temporary part-time intern to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, Health Outreach, and Research, this position provides communications activities in support of the Long Island Health Collaborative (LIHC), the Suburban Hospital Alliance of New York State (SHANYS), and SHANYS' regional organizations: the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC, Long Island region) and the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association (NorMet, Hudson Valley region). This position is hybrid , with some time working remotely and some time working in the NSHC office, located at 1383 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite 26 in Hauppauge, NY.
Remote and in-person work schedule to be determined based on intern's availability. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program pertaining to communications, public relations, health communications, or another relevant area of study. Compensation, Hours & Length of Internship Compensation: $17/hour 8 hours per week, weekly schedule to be determined based on candidate's availability 14 total weeks Key Responsibilities Communications & Outreach Attend meetings with Manager of Communications, Health Outreach, and Research Assist with development and creation of written communications materials including but not limited to social media campaigns and posts; blog posts; press releases; letters to various audiences such as media, the community, and members; thematic reports; and webpage content.
Assist with graphic design of communications materials via Canva including but not limited to social media graphics; postcards; flyers; and infographics. Contact individuals, community-based organizations, and NSHC/NorMet/LIHC members as needed. Assist with distribution of Community Health Assessment Survey (CHAS).
Assist with maintenance of existing contact lists. Research Research new contact lists and update existing lists including but not limited to physicians; libraries; elementary, middle, and high schools; legislators; media; and community-based organizations. Research of topics including but not limited to population health; census data; statistics for grant-writing; upcoming local events; NSHC/NorMet/LIHC member news; and more.
Data Entry and Reports Enter paper-based CHAS into SurveyMonkey analysis platform. Create and export reports from SurveyMonkey. Create custom data reports as needed.
Events Assist with coordination and promotion of community outreach events. Special Projects Depending on intern's unique skillsets, other specialized projects related to communications, outreach, and Research may be assigned. Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications Candidate must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program pertaining to communications, public relations, health communications, or another relevant area of study. Must have excellent communication skills, especially writing skills. Computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office suite of functions.
Proficiency in Survey Monkey a plus. Interest and knowledge of healthcare, public health, New York's healthcare landscape, data analytics, and/or health policy a plus.
