SMBC Rail Services (a Division of SMBC Group) is a premier Full Service Lessor of long lived rolling stock offering comprehensive Rail Leasing solutions in North America. The VP, Sourcing and Regulatory Compliance role is a replacement position responsible for managing all 3rd party vendor relationships for a growing fleet of over 50,000 rail assets as well as the management of all Regulatory Compliance aspects of the business. The role reports to the VP of Operations.
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $129,000 and $151,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
- Manage all aspects of the new car build process and on-boarding of rail assets
- Manage warranty process (new railcars and repairs)
- Manage repair shop and storage agreements in line with the budget
- Negotiate materials contracts and manage the collection of rebates
- Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to determine material purchase requirements and expedite cars through shop
- Manage repair shop quality and compliance to procedures
- Manage timely re-qualification of the tank car fleet and other regulatory requirements
- Manage the SMBC quality program including documentation and periodic review of Policies & Procedures
- Represent SMBC Rail on various industry and regulatory committees
- Work cross functionally with the Portfolio Management and Commercial Teams
- Manage the Sourcing, Program Management and Fleet Adminstration Teams
- Coach/mentor direct reports to improve their effectiveness, assess personal effectiveness and provide development opportunities
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business and/or relevant experience in the Rail industry
Desired Skills & Attributes
- Minimum 10 years of prior Leadership experience
- Strong Communication skills - ability to communicate clearly (written and oral) with all levels of the organization
- Vendor Management experience
- Technical problem solving
- Strong understanding of Industry rules & regulations
- Customer Focus – timely and accurate responses to customer needs
- Master’s degree preferred but required
- Leasing / Rail background preferred but not required
