This remote role is responsible for accounting, business planning, budgeting, contracts, compliance, operations, and administration. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on strategic thought partner and report to the CEO. The VP of Finance will be critical in partnering with the Executive Team in strategic decision-making and operations as the company continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. Responsibilities:
- Analyzes and presents financial reports accurately and in a timely manner; clearly communicates monthly and annual financial statements; collates financial reporting materials for all donor segments; and oversees all financial, project/program, and grant accounting.
- Oversees and leads annual budgeting and planning process with the CSuite staff. administers and reviews all financial plans and budgets; monitors progress and changes; and keeps the senior leadership team abreast of the organization's financial status.
- Presents quarterly financial statements to the Board of Directors at the Board meeting.
- Manages organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Implements a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensures that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Manages the accounting/finance department. Updates and implements all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improves the finance department's overall policy and procedure manual.
- Oversees all compliance and regulatory audits and required reporting.
- Updates and maintains Financial Policies and Procedures.
- Reviews and manages all tax submissions to IRS, including Form 990.
- Strengthens internal controls to manage cash flow and protect financial assets.
- Installs procedures to improve efficiencies and reduce expenses where possible.
- Oversees payroll and 401(k) plan management.
- Create and present a monthly dashboard forecasting financial information and key operating metrics.
- Must be able to travel to grantor sites and home office as needed, approximately 2-4 trips a year.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree.
- Familiar with generally accepted accounting practices and principles
- At least seven to 10 years of overall professional experience; ideally, six-plus years of broad financial, compliance/contracts, and operations management experience.
- The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for a division or significant program area.
- Ability to translate financial concepts and to effectively collaborate with programmatic colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
- A track record in grants management.
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision-making.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with various internal and external stakeholders.
- A multitasker who can wear many hats and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
