Full-time Salaried non-exempt personnel will work a Schedule on a 48/96-hour rotation.
Hourly and Volunteer personnel will work a schedule depending on availability and minimum requirements as defined in the HCESD13/CCFD Staffing and Response Operations Procedure.
Duties:
Firefighter shall:
- Perform all duties assigned by Captain or Superior Officer.
- A firefighter shall execute fire suppression and rescue tasks with a high degree of proficiency.
- A firefighter shall execute vehicle extrication tasks with a high degree of proficiency.
- A firefighter shall execute EMS BLS First response skills and functions with a high degree of proficiency
- Conduct routine care and maintenance of the Departments apparatus, assuring operational readiness according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Have detailed knowledge of locations and equipment on all assigned apparatus and their proper use.
- Complete daily inspection and maintenance records via PSTrax Online of assigned Department apparatus and equipment.
- Recognize and promptly report safety or mechanical problems immediately to a supervisor and report and alert to PSTrax Online as soon as possible.
- Perform daily apparatus inventory of fire, rescue, and EMS equipment and supplies of assigned Department apparatus Reporting missing or damaged equipment immediately to the higher ranking officer.
- Participate in fire containment and suppression, ventilation, rescue, property conservation, and customer service activities while protecting life and property.
- Be knowledgeable of the Departments Standard Operating Guidelines, Procedures, and Policies.
- Administers first aid and emergency medical care to injured/ill persons consistent with the level authorized by EMS certification, established medical protocols, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in fire prevention, safety education presentations, and pre-fire planning as required.
- Participate in all Fire Department and company-level training activities.
- Receive and execute routine assignments, special projects or programs, and orders as directed by a higher-ranking officer.
- Complete all routine paperwork and reports in a correct and timely manner.
- Receive and execute routine assignments, special projects or programs, and orders as directed by a supervisor.
- At the direction of, or in the absence of, a higher-ranking officer, assume a higher ranks responsibilities, activities, and duties until relieved.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Be courteous, professional, and helpful in their relations with fellow firefighters, the public, and superior officers.
- See that all visitors are greeted courteously and that unauthorized person(s) are not permitted to go about the station unescorted.
- Ensure fire stations and department facilities are maintained clean, neat, and orderly.
- Adhere to the Departments Policy regarding Personal Protective Equipment.
- Maintain personal fitness levels adequate to execute essential job functions.
Absence from Duty:
The Firefighter shall notify the on-duty Captain or District Chief of any condition that may cause them to be absent or unable to perform these duties.

Traffic Incident Management Certificates
NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certificates
Valid Texas Drivers License
Driving records must comply with departmental driving guidelines

Completion of a TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter Course or equivalent

Preferred or Desired Qualifications:
TCFP Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Master Structural Firefighter Certification
TDSHS EMT-A, or EMT-P Certification by the Texas Department of Health
TCFP Driver Operator Certification
TCFP Driver Operator Aerial Certification
TCFP Instructor I-III Certification
TCFP Fire Officer I-IV Certification
TCFP Fire Investigator Certification
TCFP Fire Inspector Certification
Blue Card Incident Command
Texas Drivers License Class B (Firefighter Exempt)
Current employment/membership if career, combination, or volunteer fire department
Current status as engineer operator or officer with a career department
Hazardous materials, rescue, or other special operations training and or certifications
College Education-AS or BS degree in Fire Science or related field
Required Skills:
Ability to execute all the skills required of a firefighter I and II as defined in the NFPA
Ability to proficiently execute all the skills required of an EMT-B
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in English
Strong team building, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Able to work well without supervision
Able to handle suddenly changing work conditions and assignments
Working knowledge of emergency operations management and emergency tactics
Ability to pass Departmental Physical and Respiratory Protection medical examinations
Ability to pass a drug screen
Ability to pass Department physical ability test
Work Location & Conditions:
Adverse or potentially hazardous environments will be routinely present during training exercises and emergency responses. Moderate to heavy lifting, under high physical exertion, with protective clothing and SCBA, will be required in high-heat environments for an extended period.
