Position Summary:
The Virtual Chief Information Officer's (vCIO) primary role is to develop and maintain business relationships with multiple selected clients to provide strategic planning and technology alignment to business objectives. The vCIO will serve as a trusted advisor to multiple clients by gaining knowledge of the client’s business use for IT, assessing budgets, risks, and strategies, and providing technology roadmaps. This role also entails the creation of comprehensive technology roadmaps to guide clients toward their desired technological future. The vCIO will also collaborate with other HBS Business Units to support and cross-sell additional HBS services.
Roles and Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Establish and nurture strong, trust-based relationships with a diverse client portfolio and own the customer experience.
- Lead and actively participate in team and client meetings, demonstrating exceptional communication skills.
- Strategically plan, manage, and execute technology solutions that align with client business objectives.
- Collaborate with Sales Teams, Engineers, HBS Leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Oversee and coordinate cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure successful project implementation.
- Skillfully assess and mitigate escalated issues and risks.
- Engage with customer department heads, managers, supervisors, and vendors to foster cooperation and resolve challenges.
- Evaluate proposals for feasibility, requirements, and operational progress, providing expert insights.
- Manage project budgets efficiently while delivering desired outcomes.
- Expertly oversee and control project work plans, adapting them to changing needs and requirements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Contribute to product selection and research, configuration standards, and best practices.
- Educate sales teams on available products and services to enable effective promotion.
- Stay current with technology trends and provide guidance on emerging solutions and best practices.
- Ensure technology solutions comply with industry regulations and standards.
- Mentor and guide client IT teams to support their professional development.
- Foster innovation and digital transformation within client organizations.
- Continuously assess the effectiveness of technology strategies, adapting them to evolving client needs and market conditions.
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills in managing teams and delivering successful services and deliverables.
- Leverage administrative staff resources to increase efficiency and profitability of engagements.
- Responsible for achieving Individual revenue goals as set by Supervisor.
- The vCIO will be measured against Individual and additional Services revenue goals set by HBS.

- Decision-Making: Experience in making effective decisions while managing resources and budgets.
- Leadership: Experience successfully motivating and guiding teams to achieve organizational goals. Management experience not required.
Preferred Experience:
- Depth of Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in areas listed above.
- Industry Relevance: Experience in industries relevant to client portfolios is advantageous.
- Consulting Background: Prior consulting or external vCIO experience is preferred.
- Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to lead high-level strategic initiatives within an organization.
- Technology Expertise: Deep expertise in specific technology domains or industries (e.g., cybersecurity, cloud computing) is advantageous.

- Degrees: Bachelor’s Degree
- Skills: Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, professional environment.

- Degrees: Master’s Degree
- Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, or industry-specific certifications, can be valuable and may be required by some employers.

- Field Experience: Course work or field experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field.
