SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Vice President for Academic Affairs & Student Services is the chief instructional and Student Services officer of the College and is responsible for the supervision, operation, evaluation, and planning of the credit bearing academic programs, personnel and all the academic and Student support services. This Vice President is also responsible for faculty and staff evaluations, goal setting and related professional development programs in his or her areas and the development of the outcomes assessment programs in the areas of oversight. The Vice President works with the President in setting institutional goals, plans, and budgets for curriculum development, instruction, Student Servicesand Student development and assessment. This position reports directly to the President and serves on the President's Cabinet, co-chairs several governance committees both standing and ad hoc, and chairs the enrollment management council.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly and is responsible to the President of the College.

B. This position oversees all credit generating instructional divisions and provides oversight for the core Student Services units.

C. The Vice President coordinates most closely with all major administrative areas of the College as well as local, state, and federal agencies in fulfilling the assigned duties and responsibilities.

DUTIES

A. Provides leadership for the credit instructional divisions of the College in the following areas:

1. Works with department chairs, division directors, program coordinators and faculty to develop courses and programs, as well as the master course schedule, to meet the educational needs of the community and region based on the College's strategic plan. 2. Works with faculty and staff to make curriculum and academic support services improvements to meet identified needs at both the course and program level. 3. Implements approved academic programs and services, and related plans and budgets. 4. Works with department chairs and division directors to determine the assignment of faculty responsibilities and the assessment of faculty loads. 5. Provides oversight for the College’s advisory committee model. 6. Coordinates the development of the annual academic plans and budget. 7. Oversees matters of effectiveness and efficiency in the development and management of the master credit class schedules. 8. Oversees full-time and part-time faculty recruitment, evaluation, and development. 9. Implements the College’s strategic curriculum initiatives in cooperation with the Dean of Continuing Education.

10. Coordinates various academic program accreditation activities.

11. Develops and implements an outcomes assessment plan for instruction and academic programs and courses. 12. Recommends annual budgets for all academic programs consistent with College plans. 13. Supervises Division Chairpersons, the Director of Instruction, other academic officers, and the Dean of Students. 14. Coordinates Academic Affairs, serving as the lead academic liaison with WCPS partnership groups, Faculty Assembly, Student Government, and other College organizations. 15. Supervises public and private sector grants programs that pertain to the credit curricula and Student Services areas of the College. 16. Chairs the Enrollment Management Council and leads academic and Student Services joint enrollment enhancement initiatives.

B. This position also has oversight responsibility for the following areas:

1. Student services and academic records

2. Student academic advising and course registration for credit offerings

3. Student learning and Student development outcomes assessment

4. Curriculum articulation matters with both the high schools and the universities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Doctorate degree preferred; or the ability to obtain while in the position; Master’s degree required; minimum ten years related administrative experience, to include at least five years of Academic or Student Services supervisory experience at a college or university (director of department chair level or above), and at least three years of college teaching experience. Related business-industry training experience and familiarity with academic and Student Services IT systems are strong preferences.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, and computer applications skills; financial management skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; ability to design, develop, and implement plans for instructional units; ability to build, coordinate, and assess the delivery oF instruction and support services; and ability to make decisions in a timely manner and to assess the outcomes of those decisions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work conducted under normal office conditions. Multi-tasking skills are essential. Travel is required to attend various local, statewide and regional meetings and professional development conferences as designated / approved by the President.
