Primary Purpose
The Senior Vice President (SVP), Services, is responsible for the overall strategy, approach, and management of Essex service offerings. The SVP, Services, oversees Program Delivery and Engineering functions, the Senior Vice President develops the appropriate service management strategies and approaches to support Essex current and future services. Services oversees the Essex Process Quality Assurance approach and execution of compliance to existing Essex Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The SVP, Services, oversees the Essex Engagement Management process and execution in coordination with the Program and Engineering, and supports incorporating new services into the Essex service catalog.
- Oversee Service Delivery for all Essex team, inclusive of Program and Engineering Delivery
- Service Strategy and Management
- Oversee the identification, definition, and implementation of services at Essex.
- Collaborate with Delivery Leaders to identify, define, and formally implement existing services within their areas
- Maintain an Essex Service Catalog that maps out all of Essex’s formalized service offerings
- Create a process to identify and develop new services.
- Developing a new service would include defining, documenting, and implementing the service formally to be included in the Essex Service Catalog
- New services may be identified: Based on repetitive client opportunities/engagements; By Delivery Leaders; and/or Through activities of the Innovation Center
- Align the Essex Service Catalog with Business Development’s (BD) evaluation of potential new business opportunities.
- Process Quality Assurance
- Ensure Essex services are being delivered according to their defined service approach.
- Ensure corporate-level SOPs are also implemented and followed.
- Essex Engagement Management Process
- Oversee the Engagement Management process and execution
- Ensure alignment between the BD proposal/contract process and the transition to delivery
- Ensure alignment between the engagement approach and the delivery organizations
- Functional oversight of the Engagement Managers
- Innovation
- Identify and explore innovative opportunities to enhance or expand Essex’s services, delivery, and product space
- Partner with the Innovation Center as an incubator for new ideas
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Utilize quantitative approaches to identify opportunities for improvement
- Demonstrated ability to identify, define, and implement solutions addressing both technology and business process needs
- Ability to collaborate across functional teams and organizational groups to address holistic needs of the organization and/or client
- Ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing staff using mentoring and coaching techniques
- Proven ability to effect sustainable change at the organization and/or team level
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Effective communication skills in a variety of settings, including one-on-one, small group, and company-wide, using a variety of mediums
- Demonstrated knowledge of program and project management approaches and methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of software development lifecycle approaches
- Demonstrated knowledge of Agile (Scrum/Kanban) approaches and methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Capability Maturity Model Integration approach
- Demonstrated ability to identify and integrate innovative approaches to technology services
- Demonstrated ability to plan for and manage organizational change
- 10+ years of Program and/or Project Management experience in the technology and life sciences industry with at least 2+ years at the Director level or above
- 5+ years working in a consulting role (internal or external consultant)
- 5+ years managing people (direct reports)
- CMMI experience and/or certification desired
- Agile Scrum/Kanban experience and/or certification desired
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Work for this position must be performed in the United States (required). Candidates local to Rockville, MD are preferred.
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Public Trust positions. Visa sponsorship is not available.
- Successful applicants will be required to travel to an NIH-designated facility for security badging within 60 days of hire. Expenses will be reimbursed.
