JOB SUMMARY
The VP of Communications will develop and implement an annual communications strategy to reflect the organization’s strategic vision and support overall business priorities. The VP of Communications is responsible for overall strategy and management of Marketing, Public Relations, Media Relations and Digital Engagement as well as Community Relations activities. The VP of Communications will also serve as the crisis communications lead and serve as a vital resource for all EOC external communication. The VP of Communications will create, implement, and oversee cohesive external communications and PR programs and implement digital marketing campaigns on social media platforms with coordination from other departments that support EOC’s strategic focus.
Essential Functions
  • Participating as part of the Executive Management Team
  • Ensuring the organization has strategic and thorough long-term Communications plans in place to achieve its goals
  • Supervising all Marketing, Public Relations, Media Relations, and Social Engagement through close collaboration with staff directors on strategies for effectiveness
  • Supervise Staff
  • Manage EOC’s advertising and website strategy including analytics and content
  • Manage EOC’s brand and increase brand visibility
  • Lead any Crisis Management situation for the organization
  • Lead media relations including promoting and protecting EOC’s reputation, building relationships with media reporters, managers and new personnel, press releases, manage media requests, pitch stories, and stay current on news and trends
  • Lead and create the strategy for EOC's social media platforms including creating, designing, writing, and editing digital content
  • Extensive coordination with EOC’s Development Department
  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships with board members, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, industry executives, leading experts, and other constituents
  • Position the organization to be the leading voice for low-income energy in Colorado
  • Lead Community Relations activities and support outreach to partner organizations and key stakeholders to strengthen EOC's reputation and credibility, position EOC as a thought leader, and equip EOC staff and leaders to serve as effective brand ambassadors
  • Creating a dynamic, highly-efficient work culture that values teamwork and collaboration
  • Ensuring development and implementation of strategies to make the organization more diverse, inclusive and equitable
  • Building strong and diverse coalitions in Colorado, including non-traditional allies and communities of color

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of previous communications experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated success leading and collaborating with teams
  • Demonstrated experience of influencing without authority
  • Excellent oral and written communication ability
  • Strong organizational skills: detail focused, able to handle multiple tasks/projects at a time, meets deadlines
  • Focus on internal/external customer needs
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to work independently. Must be highly motivated, organized and able to multitask
  • Mature, responsible, and trustworthy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or a related field required
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Valid Driver's License required or the ability to be present to meet at various locations, and times as required
  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, talking, hearing
Work Environment
  • Hybrid – office location in downtown Denver and employees’ home or remote Colorado location
  • Proof of Covid vaccination required
  • Salary Range 135,000. - 145,000. annual equivalent
