The US Indirect Tax Business Advising Manager will be responsible for managing our North America tax exemption certificate group located in Davidson NC, as well as, La Crosse, Wisconsin. This role will have 9 direct reports and would be responsible for sales tax determination on equipment, service, local buy-sell, and parts sales and purchases.
The successful candidate is required to have had previous experience in all 50 states with US Sales & Use tax audits, taxability determinations and Vertex O' series & Q' Series platforms. The candidate will be expected to travel to various sales office locations to hold in person training sessions for the Commercial equipment and service business. The decisions and transactions performed in this position directly impact Trane Technologies exposure, cash flow, and sales tax audit liability. This role will Interact directly with the sales organization, internal departments, and outside customers. This position will be part of the Corporate Tax organization. Individual will be expected to be a change agent, a self-starter, driven for results and able to work effectively with Customer Account representatives and Business Unit leadership.
This position will report directly to the Senior Tax Manager - Indirect Tax.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- A minimum of 5 years in Manufacturing, or Commercial HVAC equipment sales and service Industry
- Identify and pursue process improvements to ensure that we are taxing our customers correctly as early in the PO/Invoicing process as possible
- Research state sales tax regulations, and provide state specific tax guidance to customers and sales offices pertaining to equipment sales, rentals, and service of HVAC units
- Validate and process exemption certificates
- Work with internal and external customers to both educate and resolve tax related issues that arise with sales transactions
- Provide hands on training to all direct reports and sales offices throughout the organization.
- Resolve tax disputes and maintain adequate internal controls.
- Provide Indirect Tax Business requirements on all project initiatives (Includes testing and production roll-out)
- Support audit function by providing requested exemption certificates to support exempt sales.
Position Requirements
- BS/BA in business administration, accounting, or finance.
- A minimum of 10 years prior experience in US Indirect Taxes in all 50 States as well as Canada with an emphasis on manufacturing or Commercial HVAC industries
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, with the ability to function independently as well as in a team environment
- Hands on, problem solver, result oriented but focused on customer satisfaction
- Experience using sales tax research applications
- Proficiency in Excel
- Knowledge of sales tax software programs; Vertex O series & Q Series
- Knowledge of Oracle ERP systems
Position will be a Hybrid work schedule (3 days in office) for candidates residing in WI or NC - 100% remote all other states. (relocation not provided)

Base Pay Range: $102,500-$211,000, plus bonus
