The individual selected for this position will have a background that includes similar work. They may have done maintenance, janitorial, custodial and/or grounds keeping for a residential facility or in a commercial/industrial setting. This person will be mechanically adept and very comfortable with basic hand tools and power tools. They will be looking for a career with a future, one that has a lot of variety, and one that allows them to be out in the fresh air on a frequent basis while accomplishing job tasks. They will be a fan of our Northwest weather and will not let it get in the way.
The Transit Facilities Specialist is relied on to do a lot of important work here at Pierce Transit including (but not limited to):
- Assembling, installing and maintaining the bus shelters and amenities located throughout our service area.
- Performing routine custodial services in and around buildings.
- Installing and replacing route signs to including digging post holes and mixing and pouring concrete.
- Ensuring minor repairs are made when and where they are needed, replacing light bulbs, cleaning and replenishing restrooms.
- Operating a lot sweeper truck.
- Supporting the work of the Facilities Maintenance Mechanics as needed.

PAID LEAVE:
Full-time Pierce Transit employees are eligible to receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, and 12 vacation days per year. Part-time employees, receive pro-rated leave, to include sick leave, vacation, personal holiday and holiday pay. Vacation leave accrual rates increase per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Assembles, installs, maintains, and removes shelters and amenities to include crane operation, installing glass panels and cutting plexiglass as required.
- Installs and replaces ride guides, seats, bike racks, benches and trashcans.
- Mixes and pours concrete, digs post holes, installs, and replaces route signs, poles and manufactured low voltage electrical devices at bus stops. Repairs potholes at bus stops; removes broken glass and safety hazards from bus stops.
- Performs minor repairs on sinks, toilets, doors, and windows. Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes in buildings and shelters; performs minor low voltage electrical repairs.
- Manufactures, installs, and maintains signage at bus stops and other facilities.
- Prepares and paints shelters, structures, shop equipment, curbs, and crosswalks. Pressure washes structures, shelters, and pavement. Operates lot sweeper and cleans up oil spills.
- Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; dusts and cleans offices and lunchrooms. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; washes windows, woodwork, and walls.
- Moves furniture and equipment as requested.
- Cleans walkways and grounds adjacent to buildings and ensures that rubbish, weeds, and wastepaper are removed.
- Removes snow and ice; spreads sand as required.
- Performs traffic control (flagging) duties.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- May assist Facilities Maintenance Mechanics in major electrical, carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and welding repairs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years of experience in related custodial work, grounds keeping and facilities maintenance. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license at the time of hire.
- Must have the ability to perform the essential functions as described above including the ability to maneuver objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
