POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for, and assisting with minor construction, residential remodeling. Routine housing, office and classrooms maintenance/repairs for all KCR buildings. May require working on-call and at nights to meet emergency needs as directed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated ability to maintain a continual awareness of safety and security conditions, monitor status of alarms and indicators and respond appropriately.
  2. Acknowledges and completes work assignments with the Facilities Manager. Completes job reports and schedules follow up visits with residents and staff.
  3. Completes tasks to specifications or standards in a timely manner. Pro-actively communicates challenges and consults with experts/leadership as appropriate in working both independently and under direction.
  4. Assists in construction/building and remodeling duties (builds/repairs decking, stairs, roofing, interior and exterior walls, sub-flooring, handrails, and handicapped or AHA required projects) where necessary. Will need to follow plans in accordance with approved designs and regulatory requirements.
  5. Has working knowledge of all types of flooring; removal, repair and replacement skills.
  6. Assists in plumbing and electrical repairs and installation for entire program.
  7. Assists HVAC repairs and maintenance when needed or provides oversight of sub-contractor hired to perform such duties as requested by Facilities Manager.
  8. Completes concrete related projects such as sidewalks, curbs, and slabs as assigned and/or directed.
  9. Repairs and/or installs playground equipment or provides oversight and assist sub-contractor hired to perform such duties as requested by Facilities Manager.
  10. Performs pick-up/delivery and is responsible for program mail-run and supplies, loads/unloads materials, supplies and equipment as needed.
  11. Performs janitorial duties as needed.
  12. Maintains program vehicles as needed.
  13. Occasionally works on building maintenance/repair projects with Kitsap Child Care, Human Services maintenance staff and KCR Administration.
  14. Assists in the maintenance of disaster equipment and materials for entire program.
  15. Assists the Facilities Manager in his/her absence if/when necessary.
  16. Accepts other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED and ability to demonstrate applicable experience in janitorial/maintenance to meet the needs of the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Valid driver's license and the ability to be covered under KCR's insurance by meeting the current requirements of KCR's vehicle insurance program so that they may operate a KCR vehicle. Will need to obtain Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on KCR's standards upon being hired.
  2. Working knowledge of finish and rough carpentry, sheetrock, cabinetry, basic plumbing, basic electrical and added bonus for specialized knowledge of building and maintenance systems?
  3. Ability to obtain a Certificate in CPR, AED & First Aid Training within 90 days.
  4. The demonstrated ability to communicate and work with disadvantaged populations. Including those who may be experiencing mental health, physical limitations
  5. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain a professional demeanor and behaviors while working as part of a team.
  6. Ability to successfully meet the requirements of KCR from a Washington State background Check and complete the necessary national and federal agencies background checks involving fingerprints related to your Head Start/Early Head Start/ECEAP program position at KCR.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, twisting and bending.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  3. Cognitive ability to complete work accurately and to specifications.
  4. Demonstrated ability to read and communicate with supervision in English. Good communication skills, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.
  5. Must be able to work at all times of the day, any day of the week on an on-call basis
  6. Must be able to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments
  7. KCR Head Start/Early Head Start/ECEAP programs require all staff to be tested for Tuberculosis (TB) upon employment. Non-classroom staff is given up to 30 days from the date of hire to obtain their TB skin test. Initial physical exam within 30 days of employment is required, every two years thereafter.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work safely with power equipment, charged electrical and fluid systems, motors, vehicles, lifting equipment, etc.
  9. Cognitive ability to problem solve and develop and communicate options for completing tasks
  10. Cognitive ability to translate instructions and basic plans and schematics into safe and appropriate action using the appropriate equipment and resources.
