Nature of Work
HOURS
This is a seasonal position and is therefore temporary in nature. Position ends at the end of the season.
Job Duties
- Leads and oversees all youth tennis lessons and ensures a safe, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons and communicates the objectives to participants; plans and instructs lessons through discussions, demonstrations and class participation.
- Observes and evaluates participant’s performance and lesson structure to ensure development and satisfaction of participants.
- Helps Recreation Supervisor to make weather related decisions.
- Cares for and maintains equipment, materials and facilities. This may include cleaning courts prior to lessons.
- Ensures safety precautions are taken at all times.
- Performs light maintenance duties as assigned, including but not limited to picking up litter around the courts or grounds.
- Communicate with parents, program staff and supervisors about the program and participant progress.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with staff, supervisors and program participants and their family members.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive and respectful organization and supports the City’s mission, vision and core values.
- Completes all other duties assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.

- Ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of people and ages.
- Ability to arrive at work on time and must be available for the entire season with limited time off requests.
- Enthusiasm to work with youth.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
Qualifications
- Must have at least 5+ years of tennis experience, either as a player or an instructor.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience as a youth Tennis Instructor.
- Previous experience working with youth.
- Experience developing and implementing programs and activities.
- Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language prevalent in the City of Richfield
Supplemental Information
Must have the ability to:
- Maintain physical condition necessary for moderate physical activity such as running, standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, bending, and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
