We are seeking a dynamic Tennis Instructor to join our team at the Woodcroft Club in South Durham from June 10th - August 23rd. An opportunity to work with the Club year round teaching lessons and doing clinics afternoons and weekends during the year is available for the right candidate (working with children and adults). The Tennis Instructor will be responsible for providing engaging and skill-building tennis lessons to campers aged 6 - 12. The ideal candidate should have a passion for working with children, possess strong communication skills, and be knowledgeable about athletics. For someone looking for more hours throughout the year, there are opportunities to work in our workday/intersession camps, act as a manager on duty during programming, and lifeguard at our heated pool.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Tennis Program:
- Design age-appropriate tennis programs and lesson plans for children of varying skill levels.
- Ensure that tennis activities align with the camp's overall goals and objectives.
- Tennis Instruction and Supervision:
- Provide hands-on tennis instruction, emphasizing fundamentals, sportsmanship, and enjoyment for around 30 children per week with the assistance of camp counselors.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure the well-being of all participants.
- Assess the skill levels of campers and tailor coaching strategies to meet individual needs.
- Promote Sportsmanship and Team Building:
- Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play among campers.
- Facilitate team-building activities within the tennis program.
- Equipment Management:
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of the space used by the campers.
- Coordinate with camp staff to secure necessary resources for tennis activities.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Assist the Camp Director in providing general updates to keep parents informed about camp activities.
- Emergency Response:
- Be familiar with and adhere to emergency response procedures.
- Provide first aid or seek medical assistance if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Tennis Instructor, P.E. teacher, or other recreational experience particularly with children and/or with significant experience playing tennis.
- Passion for working with children and creating a positive camp experience.
- Knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certification from a recognized tennis association is appreciated, but not required.
Working Conditions:
- This position involves outdoor activities and may require working in varying weather conditions.
- Flexible working hours may be necessary to accommodate camp schedules, but the primary base hours for camp are 8:00am - 1:30pm, with additional time for clinics, Private Lessons, or working with our afternoon campers if interested.
Pay $20 - $28/hr based on experience.
