The City of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Department seeks to hire a Youth Tennis Instructor for the 2024 Summer Season at beautiful Lake Wilderness Park. Under the direction of the Recreation Manager this position will provide instruction of Youth Tennis lessons and may perform other recreation duties as assigned.


Among other job responsibilities, this position will:

  • Assist in developing, coordinating, instructing, and supervising services for the assigned program area
  • Prepare/assist in the preparation of course outlines and written lesson plans to meet stated objectives
  • Prepare for, develop, coordinate, instruct, and supervise services for the assigned program area. Provide a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction of all participants
  • Greet the public and provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person
  • Ensure all participants are registered and maintain accurate attendance records. Assist in evaluating program success and make recommendations. Distribute program evaluation forms to participants
  • Ensure the safety of program participants, co-workers, and the general public by following City policies.If necessary, provide first aid.Report all incidents/accidents to the Supervisor immediately.Complete and submit appropriate accident/incident records and forms
  • Clean up the activity area and return equipment to proper storage areas, turn off all equipment, lights, stereo, electronics, perform minor custodial duties, and properly secure area at the end of a work shift

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Ability to implement quality tennis instruction required
  • Ability to work positively with various age groups, particularly youth and older adults
  • Minimum 1 year of tennis instruction experience
  • Ability to demonstrate the tennis skills needed to perform the duties of the job
  • Handle multiple requests for assistance in an organized manner
  • Communicate, understand, and carry out complex oral and written instructions in the English language
  • Ability to write, speak, and visually communicate with others, particularly under stressful emergency conditions

The work hours for this position can vary from week to week due to registration levels and additional optional duties as assigned. This is a temporary position, scheduled to work less than 5 months per year and is FLSA non-exempt, eligible for overtime compensation. $24.00 - $28.08 per hour, DOE.
