- Teach youth and adults, the basics to intermediate/advance skills of tennis. Plan lessons teach the skills of the sport
- Maintain courteous, friendly, helpful attitude in a positive manner towards participants and parents, while teaching lessons while keeping safety as the number one priority.
- Keep an orderly playing environment where all lessons start and end on time. Be aware of the surrounding weather conditions and delay or postpone lessons as determined by the YMCA guidelines.
- Report any inappropriate or problematic behavior, other observations and/or complaints to supervisor.
- Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: YMCA sport model and sport specific rules, personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe playing environment. Survey tennis court for possible hazards and take initiative to clean up/repair areas. Set up and tear down any necessary equipment and report damaged equipment or any unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
- Responsible for setting up and taking down of cones and/or any other equipment that is necessary.
- Be the primary responder to any accidents/incidents and fill out appropriate paperwork as needed.
- Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
- Must remain current on all mandatory trainings.
- Must be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign.
- Any other duties as assigned
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, swim, use their hands to grip, handle and feel objects and reach with their arms and legs.
- The employee will occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds. While performing duties, the employee will be exposed to water, cool or very hot temperatures and may be exposed to direct UV sunrays.
- Specific vision abilities are required for this job.
- The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance and have clear peripheral vision.
- The noise level is moderate to loud and requires acute hearing skills
- While performing the duties of this job, this individual is occasionally exposed to wet conditions and outdoor weather conditions. The typical noise level in the facility is moderate but may be high at times.
- Must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation to the site.
- The Tennis Instructor is responsible for teaching youth and adults, the basics to intermediate/advance skills of tennis. This position is responsible for development of lesson plans and teaching the skills of the sport.
- Strong customer service, problem solving skills and communication skills with the ability to relate well to participants, coaches, and families. Also, have the ability to handle conflict when necessary.
