COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)
Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality State Parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
Description of Job
Applicants should be independent workers able to interact with the public and children in a variety of circumstances. An interest in Outdoor Education, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or Outdoor Recreation will be given preference. Interns will be given the opportunity to attend commission and staff meetings; ride along with wildlife officers and rangers from other parks.
  • Education: Work closely with Park Naturalist to provide interpretive programs and
    environmental education materials to visitors of all ages. Come up with new ways to educate visitors about the park and environment. (With an emphasis on underserved communities)
  • Volunteer Management: help to recruit, train, and educate new volunteers. Ensure all
    current volunteers are up to date with proper training.
  • Planning: Coordinate special events with alongside other staff.
  • Communication: Use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to reach out to public and inform them of upcoming events.
  • Leadership and Supervision Skills: manage volunteers that assist with interpretive
    programs.
  • Partnerships: Assist park staff in developing partnerships with volunteer groups, clubs and local businesses.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
  • REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.
    • Must have a valid drivers' license or reliable transportation.
    • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
    • Previous experience handling money and working with the public is helpful.
    • Experience with data entry and word processing utilizing MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc).
    • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to work with little supervision.
    • Some uniform items will be provided, however employees will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense
    • Hard working with a positive attitude and enjoy the outdoors and the outdoor work environment, including tolerance of inclement weather conditions, rough terrain, and able to manage ambiguity
    • Must have (or be working toward) a Natural Resource related degree
