The Manufacturing Electrical Process Integration and Development Lab is designed to address manufacturing engineering and operational needs to support GM’s virtualization objectives. This lab will provide electrical bench equipment in support of software defined vehicles, build process strategy, and vehicle as a tester (VaaT). The purpose is to provide environments for development, evaluate, test, and integrate general assembly use cases.
This lab will assess the assembly process in which electrical components, circuits, or systems are installed and validated in a controlled laboratory environment. This testing is crucial in ensuring the functionality, performance, and reliability of vehicle electrical assembly process before it is deployed in real-world applications. The lab will collaborate with other teams in product development, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing operations to improve the overall manufacturing assembly process and quality.
The Manufacturing Electrical Process Integration and Development Lab Technical Manager will set the strategy for the lab technology and process execution. He/She is responsible for defining and supporting the building of desirable, feasible, viable, and sustainable strategy and solutions supporting Manufacturing Engineering and Operational needs. He/She will lead the team and collaborate with a wide range of people to identify and define needs, understand the lab context, and develop a technology roadmap to support short-term and long-term needs.
KPIs for this position can include operational metrics such as lab usage, vehicle evaluation results, cross-collaboration, quality metrics, and mentor peers.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Deep understanding of Manufacturing Engineering lab testing processes and virtual diagnostic tool models.
- Provide technical direction and leadership in all phases of lab development, equipment procurement, and planning through implementation and delivery.
- Understand lab strategies and their best practices.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to engineers using the space.
- Guide design and development of best-in-class methods and pinpoint strategic areas of improvement and innovation.
- Oversee daily operations and success metrics.
- Provide leadership on projects as a cross-functional team lead, technical project manager, and/or consultant.
- Serve as the single-point contact for communicating lab metrics to leadership and escalate issues/roadblocks.
- Collaborate and interface with senior leadership, product release teams, other Technical Specialists, and suppliers to share lab results.
- Proactively identify performance improvement opportunities
- Awareness of general assembly process.
Additional Description
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- 10+ years of automotive engineering experience related to embedded controls, requirements development, and/or systems engineering
- 5+ year of working in similar testing lab environments
- Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork; demonstrated ability of leading cross-functional teams and influencing without direct authority
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
- Experience taking complex designs and systems from concept to production
- Ability to create, expand upon, communicate, and execute organization’s advanced product roadmap and vision
- Ability to develop consensus on best practices and validity of technical solutions
- Proven organizational agility, influencing across hierarchies, and driving change to achieve business results
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dSPACE/Simulink tool suite
- Understanding of ISO14229/SAE-J2534
- Excellent strategic agility – able to recognize & capitalize on opportunities, identify and avoid threats, and pivot when needed
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong collaboration, influencing, and negotiation skills
- Customer focus
- Relationship skills to create a network of contacts internally and externally
- Good analytical skills
