Research, develop, engineer, and implement advanced high strength steel, aluminum alloys, polymers, composite materials, and multi-series aluminum MIG, laser, and resistance spot Welding and fastener and adhesive joining processes to achieve passenger vehicle body in white (BIW) structure, battery structure, and underbody structure defect free production performance requirements in vehicle assembly plant environments. Explore future materials for generation 3 high strength steel Welding and aluminum to steel Welding and fasteners and adhesives joining. Specify, configure, and operate equipment to test MIG welding, flow drilling screw (FDS), self-piercing rivets (SPR), and friction element welding (FEW). Develop Welding and Joining processes to meet production performance requirements. Identify critical material Welding and Joining parameters including geometry, stiffness, strength, failure strength, and failure modes, and conduct CAE investigations using Design of Experiments (DOE) methods to determine Welding and fastener and adhesive Joining Material cards (CAE material models of properties and characteristics).
Additional Description
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Materials Engineering. Six months’ experience as Engineer, Researcher, Research Fellow, or related. Must also have experience with developing and implementing high strength steel, aluminum alloys, and multi-series aluminum welding processes to achieve passenger vehicle body in white (BIW) structure defect free production performance requirements in vehicle assembly plant environment.
