Job Description
We are seeking a Technical Accountantfor our Purchase, NY office, reporting into the Technical Accounting Management.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and upload journal entries to the SAP General Ledger or FSCD subledger ensuring supporting documentation reconciles to journal entry template
- Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly technical accounting financial data for multiple legal entities
- Collaborate with IT, Reserving and Ceded Operations regarding various interfaces and reconciliations (i.e., premium, loss reserve, acquisition costs, etc.) to resolve variances, mapping, or other issues
- Design and perform account balance analytics to prove the accuracy and reliability of the underlying financial data and to explain fluctuations from period to period
- Produce, review, and continually develop quality analysis of the Balance Sheet & Income Statement,
- Provide insight into and utilize analytics to support accurate and reliable financial statements and to explain fluctuations from period to period
- Maintain a robust controls environment that ensures the integrity and reliability of the technical accounting financial data
- Posess a strong technical accounting knowledge to report on an IFRS basis
- Familiarity with complex data systems and SAP Ledger & FSCD experience preferred
- Utilize strong leadership skills to help drive organizational change
- Interact with internal and external auditors on the control environment, audit queries, and audit planning
- Drive continuous process improvements within the Technical Accounting team
- Create efficiencies to meet accelerated close calendar
- Develop and maintain detailed procedures documentation
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (Reserving, Ceded Ops, IT, Corporate) to ensure coordination of hand-off's, process changes, etc.
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed by management
Desired Skills & Experience
- Degreed accountant with at least 5 years' experience
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience within an insurance and / or reinsurance technical accounting role preferred
- CPA, CA, or ACA designation desirable
- Public Accounting background preferred
- Excellent technical, analytical, interpretive, and evaluative skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain internal and external relationships
- Organized, highly motivated and driven self-starter with proven ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively as part of a high performing team
- Proficiency / experience of Financial Data and MI Systems
- Computer skills including Excel (advanced level preferred), Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
- Knowledge and experience with FSCD/FSRI/SAP a plus
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
