The anticipated hiring range for this position is $3,100.00 per class section. Hiring offers will be determined based on the course credits and final candidate’s qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY
The Masters in Professional Studies (MPS) Teaching Assistant assists lead faculty members with classroom instruction / delivery, learner management, course assessment, course communication, record keeping, and other miscellaneous projects–in partnership (and liaising) with the lead course navigator, for an assigned course of The School of Graduate & Professional Studies, the CIA’s center for graduate executive education. Working with the lead faculty member, the Teaching Assistant may also be responsible for providing course content and for ongoing formative and final, summative subjective grading of student work.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Host or co-hosting Open Office Hour / AMA Sessions for learners.
- Mentor students on individual concepts connected to the course and/or course themes.
- Partner with CIA research + reference librarian to obtain digital content needed for classes–including readings, case studies, videos, and other materials.
- Collaborate with course navigator to monitor course discussion forums and provide summaries to lead faculty members.
- Review and create course assignments and grade course activities based on established rubrics.
- Regularly monitor the Muddiest Point forum and respond / notify lead course navigator as appropriate.
- Prepare “early-action” or “early-warning” reports on learners who need additional support.
- Respond to learner communication on a timely and regular basis.
- Complete periodic performance review on learner productivity.
- Review assessment objectives and reporting on assessment to Program Designer as requested.
- Provide summary notes from faculty to learners and / or the instructional design team.
- Design and deliver a supplementary lecture video and/or framing lecture in support of the primary content lecture, as needed.
- Attend meetings with instructional / program design team, faculty member(s), course navigation team, and program director.
- Partner with the Teaching Assistants and course navigators / instructional assistant staff in the parallel track (foodservice/food product) to compare notes, develop best practices, and share learning.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Master’s Degree, or equivalent required in related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Terminal degree preferred.
- Strong interest or experience in food business highly desirable.
- Working experience in subject area preferred.
- Publications in the subject area highly desirable.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Expertise in subject area.
- Should be familiar with online learning platforms, understand the framework of learner-focused team-based learning.
- Ability to self-direct and work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Detail oriented and thorough.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information clearly and simply.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Passion and aptitude for project management.
- Proficient in MS Office suite products and Google Apps.
- Ability to multitask, follow through with assignments and meet deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be available to work variable hours, including nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
- Regular work requires sitting and standing, working at computers.
- Must be able to work independently, remotely, collaboratively.
